I used to always order carne asada burritos at other burrito/taco stands, but saw that they have a Deluxe Vegetarian Burrito here so I decided to try it out. I must say...it was huge and very delicious without any meat. Definitely worth trying out if you are willing to try something different. They give you complimentary chips and salsa when you sit and will refill it before it gets empty--much better service at refilling than Chili's bottomless chips & salsa for sure.

I went here with friends for the first time and had a great experience. THE ONLY issue I have is that the space is so small outside of the bar that you are very uncomfortable. The woman behind me and I kept brushing our butts up against each other because its so tight knit. But I overly enjoyed my quesidilla. Probably one of the best i've ever had. I kind of can't wait to go back to get another one.

Came here on a random night to satisfy a burrito craving. Sadly, I was disappointed and will continue the search for a late night burrito place. We order the steak burrito, which was acceptable but nothing spectacular. We also order the special fish burrito...which turned out to be pork. The pork was EXTREMELY dry and flavorless. We order to-go and we tipped nicely because of the kind waitress who took our order but now, I kind of regret it because the order was WRONG, to an extent that does not really make sense. I don't understand how fish could look like pork on a ticket nor how a fried fish fillet would be in the same area as shredded pork. Since we left and did not want to drive back to change the order, we ate the pork but was utterly disappointed. I would have written a nicer review if the pork was any good but it wasn't. Also, maybe the cook was a little lazy since it was a burrito and it would be covered, maybe he wanted to pull a quick one by switching the meat? Whatever the reason, for mediocre mexican food in California at $8-9 a burrito, I will not be returning nor recommending.

Tried the food here before drinking and after. The verdict? It's pretty damn good either way! I'm also a big fan of their salsa which I would drink by the glass if they didn't have a full bar next door. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the LBC.

This is a small restaurant that is adjacent to The Reno Room bar. We sat on the restaurant side....next time I will try sitting in the bar. Our food was A-OK We had a carne asada tostada , cheese enchiladas and beef taquitos with rice and beans added. Our waitress was very nice and service was fairly quick consideringg how busy this place was. I just wish the restaurant didn't feel so tiny. Like I said next time we will try to sit in the bar. A-OK for the food

I'm kicking myself for not coming here a long time ago considering I just live down the street. It's attached to the Reno Room which we frequent on a weekly basis but every time we hit this spot, it's always after dinner from somewhere else...shame on me! It's a nice little hole-in-the wall place (only has about 4 tables) but the food is de-licious. Wet burritos are monstrous and tasty, chili relleno is a good choice and the mountain of nachos topped with melted cheese, refried beans, sour cream, guac, and jalapenos are my favorite! Even the complimentary chips and salsa are tasty. I have yet to try their famous margaritas so believe I'll be coming back for those.

Great authentic Mexican food with an excellent vegetarian selection as well! I absolutely love the soups here. It's a small hole in the wall type of place, but with great service. Prices are right, extremely reasonable for the quality of food you get. You won't be disappointed!

The food here is awesome and with writing this review I am totally craving those mushroom tacos. The seating area is small and small and small but its taco stand style not sit down and fine dine... so it's to be expected. The staff is cool, calm and fast. I'll probably be back tonight.

This is a review for their vegan offerings only, can't speak for the meat and cheese sect. Amazing. ALWAYS fresh, ALWAYS fast, and consistently delicious. The fresh chips and salsa that's brought to the table upon immediately sitting never disappoints. Often you'll see the staff making more salsa or guacamole right there behind the counter, THAT'S how fresh this joint is. My favorite dishes: -Nachos with no cheese, no sour cream. Ask for jalapenos and green sauce for even more flavor. -Blackened mushroom tacos are bomb. Full of flavor and so filling it's a dish my boyfriend and I often end up sharing. -Tofu burrito with guacamole is delicious and hearty. -Veggie sopes with no cheese, no sour cream are intense. They come piled with deliciousness. -Veggie tostada in a freshly fried flour tortilla is probably my favorite. So simple, but so yummy. -The guacamole is always outstanding and we order a side of that to start every meal. You can eat here early, late, and it is guaranteed to be fresh and can be faster than waiting in a drive-thru line at Taco Bell on a Friday night. Occasionally the very small dining room may be full, especially on a weekend night, so cry about it. Get it to-go and stuff your face at home. You will never wait longer than 10 minutes for their vegan dishes (meat dishes, can't speak for as I've never ordered them). The intimate feel of the location makes me love Coco Renos even more. Also, full bar next door so you can grind on vegan Mexican and chase it with a tasty Cadillac Margarita. Parking is like parking everywhere in Long Beach, hit and miss. Sometimes the lot will have spots and you're stoked, sometimes you have to park on the street and hike. No bigs, the consistent food and friendly service is worth it.

I am NOT a big Mexican food eater, but whenever that craving hits, to Coco Renos i go. I'm not an adventurous eater, so each time i go i get the same thing... 2 taco plate, hard shell, shredded chicken, black beans and rice, chip & salsa (complimentary) and a cadillac margarita. Never disappointed!! Since this restaurant is attached to the Reno Room (bar/dining area), you have the choice of sitting on the kitchen side, and leaving smelling like food or sitting in the Reno Room...dimmer lighting, pool tables, TVs and booth seating. No matter which you choose, you still get quick service, and good food/drinks. Love this place.

I've been here twice. The first time I ate at the restaurant, the second I took my food to go. The food is delicious. This is probably my favorite place to get tacos in the area (I ordered carne asada tacos both times). I'd recommend it to anyone. Prices are decent, too. The only part I don't like is the way my to go tacos came. I live about 3 blocks down and by the time I drove home, the tortilla was ripped when I picked up the taco. If you take food to go, I suggest you ask for your tacos to be wrapped on two tortillas.

I love coco renos' mushroom tacos. Coco renos is a surprisingly good hole in the wall with vegetarian options. I love that you can hang out in the reno room and order coco renos food when you get hungry. Margaritas and veggie tacos= happy!!! Come here for taco Tuesday specials.

Sir Nicholas and I may not be the sharpest tools in the shed because we did not immediately realize this place was connected to the Reno Room. I blame this on the fact that we went to the Reno Room when it was late and then we didn't venture over to this area. Also, we had a lot of drinks at the Reno Room so there. Anyway, we rode our bikes over here on a different day so we experienced the two spots as separate entities. I like Coco Renos' little space with tall wood tables and stools and heat coming off the griddle if you sit too close. I laughed at Nick for ordering a mango margarita because it just tastes like juice, but if you get the real deal on the rocks you should be fine. Unless you're looking for a sugary sweet drink with little to no alcohol in it, then by all means order a fruity frozen version. We both had blackened mahi tacos although this was a mistake. Not because they were bad, but because that wasn't what we ordered. I ordered the mushroom tacos, but didn't have the heart to tell our waitress after biting into my first taco. Plus the mahi was good enough that it was a mistake I didn't mind. Reasonable prices, margaritas, plenty of part-time pescatarian options... Coco Renos satisfies all of my needs for a quick and easy dinner.

I really love the tofu tacos at this place but the last time I was there I saw something really disgusting.... The server cleaned up a table after a couple left and the chips that were left over - she dumped back into the container where all the other chips were! She also dumped their left over salsa back into the salsa container! So nasty, I couldn't believe it. This was about two years ago and I haven't been back since :(

This place kicks major culo. I absolutely love the diversity of catering to both all kinds of palettes; totes a place that vegans and non-vegans alike can enjoy and love together. And that, in itself, is rad. Being no longer limited to mere side salads, the vegan menu boasts an ample selection of authentic mexican food. Burritos, tacos, tostadas, salads, nachos---what other quintessential mexican dishes else am I missing? That all goes to say that the food is fresh, delicioso and sooooo filling! The chips and salsa are spec-fucking-tacular and their mushroom tacos are AMAZING. The veggie burrito is humungo and verrrrrrry tasty. Too bad I live in Irvine otherwise I'd be hitting this place up all the time.

When I was young and being taught the values of good manners one of the first things was: When you are asked out to a meal unless you are asked where you would like to dine the inviter makes the choice and graciously you say sure. So, when my friend asked to take me to lunch today I said sure where? Coco Renos and he said it with a questioning reply like "is that okay?" I reluctently agreed, bad idea! Well, 4 years ago when I had just moved into my place across the street I didn't feel like cooking and decided to explore my new found eateries. LOOOOOOONG story short my enchiladas were crap, the rice and beans were burnt and, I swore I'd never be back. Well, things haven't changed and aside from it being so hot in there with the door open, the swamp cooler running and flies all over the place (that I won't need to go to the gym to work out my arms tomorrow from swatting them) the margaritas were BLEH sweet & sour mix with ice; I hadn't eaten all day and if I didn't catch a buzz there was only a squirrel's piss of tequilla in them. (be mindful my friend and I are both bartenders so we know our booze!) I didn't even finish my chicken quesadilla as I had to go on a scavanger hunt just to locate it. I guess they figure if you are so 'effed up from drinking in The Reno room you won't care!

Best hole in the wall place I've found so far in Long Beach! The carne asada burritos are EXCELLENT, as are the fish tacos. Salsa is very fresh and loaded with heat-the kind that makes you break into a light sweat! YUM! This place is really tiny but you can sit next door in a booth if it's full up. Beer is cheap and ice cold. You get a lot of food for a little money, and the ingredients are top quality. Don't be put off by the size of this place. Just GO! Your taste buds will thank you.

The chips and salsa was very delicious and nice and spicy. When I went I ordered the vegetarian burrito. I liked the burrito a lot. I plan on going back and trying the tofu, fish and other vegetarian items that they have. The place is really small.

Love this place. We go here at least once a week and always leave happy! My husband is allergic to dairy and they are always so kind and accommodating when he orders. The chips and salsa are so good and I love that they make everything fresh. Such a great place!

Date: Friday, October 30th Time: Around 1:00 am Location: Long Beach Scenario: Me: I want chips and salsa! Hamid: Babe, they don't have any! Me: I want chips and salsa! Sukhraj: Yeah, I want chips and salsa! Brad D: Why don't we go somewhere else to get chips and salsa?! Coming from a fabulous Tequila-Tasting party, we were all very hungry and craving chips and salsa. My boyfriend is used to my constant food cravings so sometimes he won't pay much attention because it usually goes away after a few minutes. But this night in particular, we were all craving something crunchy and spicy. And trust me, it was not going away! We followed our friend Brad's car and saw the sign for Coco Renos. Regardless of it being a late Friday night, we had absolutely no trouble parking. We walked to the door and the little restaurant was getting ready to close. We ordered a round of Dos Equis, some Carne Asada tacos, a mushroom quesadilla for Sukhraj, and of course...chips and the glorious salsa! Aaaahhh...Glorious Salsa! How I love thee! The salsa was freakin' amazing, hot and spicy and the chips were fresh, warm and slightly salted. I loved my taco so much, I don't remember how I finished it! By the time I was planning on stealing a piece of Sukhraj's quesadilla, the restaurant was closed and we got pushed into another room within the restaurant that seemed like a dark, loud dive bar. We were so upset that we got kicked out, we had nothing else to do but to sit somewhere as close to the bar as possible... *To Be Continued!

This place always makes up in flavor for what it lacks in staff - mainly brains. The servers are super nice, but if the cooks take your order, they almost always f it up. Either they forget to make it if you call it in or they put cheese on something after you told them 3 times on the phone - just to be sure - that you're allergic. I suggest they get smarter cooks...or maybe the cooks should not get stoned out of their minds before work.

Unique place. Its like a dive bar had unprotected sex with a mexican restaurant and didn't abort the love child. Salsa is real fucking spicy and real fucking good. Prices are a little high but not unreasonable. Put a fucking lock on the bathroom will you.

After spending more than a few hours next door at the Reno Room, we were quite ready for something cheesy, greasy, and delicious. Enter, Coco Reno's! I personally didn't get too crazy, went with the mushroom taco and the carne asada taco. Surprisingly, both were a bit greasy but JUST what the dr ordered :) I will say the they're sorta expensive, probably because they know people aren't exactly paying attention to the prices when they're ordering. I know I was buzzed so didn't mind paying 6 bucks for 2 tacos (at the time) lol

This reveiw is for the Reno Room/Coco Renos. They have two different names, but are totally connected, the food is on one side, the drinks on the other. Why not just have one name? The mystery may never be solved... But I digress. I like to get a nice big veggie burrito with some blackened tofu without driving all the way down to taco loco in Laguna beach. Where else in LB can I go to a bar that has multiple vegetarian options on its menu?? Blackened tofu and mushrooms with yummy salsa and lard-free mexican food...mmm. And it doesn't hurt that it's a few steps away from Club Broadway and The Library coffeeshop. This really feels like a hole in the wall and is not the kind of place you would go to impress a date, but they have good portions and good prices and a pretty decent location. I can never finish my food and always have lunch or dinner for later. oh yeah, and guacamole...yumm...

This USED to be one of my absolutely favorite haunts. But, lately, I must say the quality has gone downhill. My mahi mahi tacos (traditionally my favorite) were completely cold on the last two visits ... and the size of the little fish stick they threw in there made it hardly worthwhile. I do still enjoy the fresh salsa ... and it often has just the right kick and cilantro flavor. But ... in the end ... If the food's not GREAT ... then why submit yourself to dealing with the burnt oil smell you incur when they overfill that basket and drop the fresh tortillas in until black smoke POURS out ... or waiting outside at the bus stop for one of 4 tables to free up ... it is simply (and frankly) not worth the wait ... and, sadly, NOT AS GOOD as it once was.

The way it should be. Good or bad, the people that call it a 'hole in the wall' are delusional. Outside of TJ (mainly Tacos Elvia...thanks Karlita), SD has the best Mexican food on the planet. Just beyond that we have Coco Renos. Our savior (along with Lolas). The food is good and the service is on point. I'm a lifer. hugs.

.., after a few rounds of pool, we hit Coco Reno's for some lunch. Had our usual carne asada burrito wet, w/ an order of chicken nachos. The burrito was awesome as usual, but it was my first time having their chicken nachos. They were excellent! My buddy Jorge & I also had their Albondigas soup (meatball soup) as well. He wasn't too crazy about it but I loved it, it had great flavor. Check it out!

This place totally feels like a locals joint where half the people knows the bartender by first name and vise versa. Friendly atmosphere and drink prices don't kill your wallet. Food service size is big for the price you pay in the area you're in. You order only your drinks through the bartender she won't take your food order even if you sit at the bar.

Hard shell shredded beef tacos!!!! Amazing. The staff is friendly and the food comes fast. I eat here waaaaaayyyy too much! Yum yum yum!

$3.50 for a single carne asada taco? I'm thinking: this better be the best freakin' taco ever. I've had gourmet tacos for less than that. The Carne Asada Taco is definitely big, well marinated, and heaped with stuff. You get a bag of chips about the size of a $0.99 Frito-Lay and the salsa is fresh and slightly spicy. It's kind of a white man's taco: piled with cheese, lettuce, guac. I think they're catering to the guys who stumble out of Reno Room at 2am. So maybe they saw the white man and assumed I wanted the White Man Special. Que? Dame el taco lleno de grasa con cilantro y cebolla, huevon! The carne asada meat is juicy and well marinated, plus they cook it fresh on the grill while you wait. A single taco is about the same size as 2-3 at the hole-in-the-wall taco joint down the street, so it basically equals out on portion. For size and full flavored meat I would give it 4 stars. However, for the pile of Taco Bell toppings it gets 3 stars. I wish I could give it a 3.5.

We stopped here on our way to the long beach aquarium after reading they were veggie friendly, and I am SO glad we did! The Veggie burrito is AMAZING! It's huge too...and SO filling! There is Jicima (sp?) in the burrito which is a great and tasty touch! The free chips and salsa are freshly made and super delcious, as it the corn relish! (I uploaded a pic of my awesome burrito here on yelp, check it out!) Oh, and the Cadillac margaritas are super tasty and super strong...just the way I like them! Head over to Coco Reno's when you are in the mood for delicious mexican food! My only warning is that the place is TINY...so it's probably not a good place to take the entire family out to lunch!

It was 4 o'clock in the afternoon, I hadn't had lunch yet and was in desperate need of a Scooby Snack. Today, I didn't want to eat meat because I had gorged myself this past weekend. I knew what I needed: 1) One made to order Blackened Mushroom Taco topped with Coco Reno's Avocado corn relish, American and Jack cheese, fresh tomato salsa and a little lime dressing on a warm soft flour tortilla. 2) One made to order grilled tofu taco with the same toppings but in a crunchy corn tortilla 3) Chips and fresh tomato salsa Not bad for $5.00. I strongly recommend eating it there while it's hot and fresh. Sometimes if you order it to go, the soft tacos get kinda wet and gushy. Yes, I had to have a bottle of Corona and a lime wedge to wash down my taco goodness.

I go CRAZY for Cocorenos! Best Mexican food in town! You cannot beat the Carne Asada at Cocorenos. I always get either asada tacos or burrito when I come in. Always made fresh (and fast!) and includes chips and salsa, yummy! Always a fun place to bring friends, enjoy a beer (or two), and get some good grub. One of my favorite spots in Long Beach!

Update: I think I've been back at least four times since my first review three months ago and I don't see myself letting up any time soon. I've now had the veg burrito, veg sopes, veg tostada, veg taco salad - all better than the tofu tacos (as I thought would be the case) and I'm not sure which I like more because they've all been awesome. Sure, it's basically all the same stuff but it just depends on what ratio of veg:carbs you're in the mood for and how you want it plated. I'm not sure why some people think this place is pricier than it should be since the usual bill for me & my BF or a friend averages around $16. Granted we're not boozing while we eat, but a tasty meal for two at $20 w/ tip included? Gracias, Coco Renos. Te Amo.

I love this place, feels like you are sitting in someone's kitchen while they cook you dinner. The food is really good, and service is always consistent. You can sit in the restaurant, or order next door from Reno Room and sit over there. I'm addicted to the Mango Margarita (even though it's mostly sugar), and the Tofu Tacos. The rice and beans are also really good here, not to mention chips and salsa which are always fresh and spicy. My favorite place for Mexican food in Long Beach.

This place is such a hole in the wall but the sign on the window says no corrective action required - always something I like to see. I always stick with the tofu soft tacos. Mmmm buttery tofu and the best salsa. No more RC cola, it's Pepsi now. Coco Renos is my favorite Mexcican food ever, and I'm not really even a Mexican food fan.

Been dining here for over 10++ years. Hole in the wall, yes. Small seating? yes. But so worth the small seating. Food made fresh with each order. Only issue is sometimes, the servers ( depending on who it is ) isn't that great, or are too busy talking about the nights event from the evening before with other employees. I noticed these kind of servers usually aren't there for too long. The bad service which sometimes happens doe not deter me. It's not to hard remind them to refill my drinks, or bring more salsa. I think of it as a bit fancy take out.. LOL

One of best Mexican places in town. Tiny, it's true, but fast, good and you can watch the cook make it in front of your eyes. Attached to full bar next door. I recommend but don't tell your friends.

Enjoy the small cozy atmosphere. There are literally only 4 tables in this place but some how I never have to wait to be seated. Good salsa and they make their own chips which is how it should be. I love their vegetarian selection. None of their burritos have done me wrong....Flavorific!!!! One of the better mexican spots in LB.

I like Coco Reno's, the Mexican restaurant side of the Reno Room. Food is cheap, made right in front of you, and a good cushion to pile on some beer or liquor if you want to stay at the bar after a while and shoot pool. A good no-frills eatery that I'd go to more often if it was closer to me.

My friend had been ranting about this place so we decided to go there last week. It's located really close to my work so I figured I love Mexican food, it would be great if I were to find somewhere close to my work. We went in the entrance off Broadway and the dining area there is SUPER small, which I guess they have a full bar in the back with TVs but we didn't go in that area. The decor is cheesy and high top table seats were super uncomfortable with these large humps on all four corners of the table which was very intrusive. I ordered a Machaca Burrito no beans x-tra rice thinking I'd get a side of rice. I guess I read the sticky menu wrong because the sides were INSIDE the burrito. So the portions are large and in charge, the burrito was as big as my head which is great, but I wanted quality. The Chicken Tortilla soup was Excellent I must say.. very good! and My friend loved his seasoned Tacos which two decent sized Taco's were under $5. My burrito was not worth $8. My other friends seemed to enjoy their dishes but not like this place is GREAT or amazing. It's okay. There are plenty of other awesome Mexican places. And just b/c it's a whole in the wall joint doesn't mean it lives up to the expectation that the food is bomb regardless of the place. The server was kind of rude. Would feel like we're being intrusive for asking for more chips and salsa or a refill of our beverage. If you live in the area I would definately order some food to go, but make sure you read the menu correctly. I wanted my damn side of rice.

Coco Renos is an great hole in the wall place to get some authentic Mexican food! Don't expect fine dining - the place is small; a few tables and bartop and the place heats up with the open grill - but if you're after something quick and tasty then this is your place. The service is super fast and the portions are large. Recommend!

Feels like a family joint! small tables, tight fit! Good Food Close friendly Place It feels like a east coast corner bar, with a SoCal twist! Coco Renos is that home-ish place to just get a drink, and have some good hot food...

Love this place. I had the Shrimp Tacos (hardshell this time) and they were really yummy. I think there was an excellent combo of cod fish and other veggie stuff that is normally added to a dish like this, but the difference with the two that come in this dish is that it's completely authentic. The place is a grill on one side with limited seating, then next door (through another door you can enter within this place) is a billiard table and a pretty cool and dark bar. I like the contrast of the two separate areas because one reminds you of a grill kitchen with counter space and some high bambo wood chairs and the other place is dark, boothy, and the bar rocks!

*sniff sniff* "What are you doing?" "My t-shirt, it smells like tortilla chips!" *sniff sniff* "It does!!" I am fortunate enough to live within walking distance of Coco Renos. Walking here on a chilly Saturday night was a great idea because my belly was painfully FULL on the return journey! Coco Renos is one of the places that reminds me I live in one of the greatest neighborhoods on earth. It's simple, it's cozy, it's tiny and full of character and charm. Sit at the counter and take in the smell of fresh corn chips frying about 4 feet away. I shared a burrito combination platter with my friend, We chose the re-fried beans over the black beans. We ordered a beef burrito and it wasn't until I got home that it occurred to me our burrito was really pork. Didn't matter, it was really good. They're open late but you can also order take-out if you get a craving for carne asada, quesadillas, tacos or enchiladas....and you won't smell like corn chips after you pick up your food.

Coco Renos makes a BOMB carne asada burrito. I recommend ordering it wet, because their burrito sauce is the best in all of Long Beach. The only reason I won't give Coco Renos 5 stars is the price. $20 for two burritos (with no drinks) is kinda steep. Shout out to Nichole, one of the servers, who is TREMENDOUSLY sweet.

I love this place. Everything on the menu is bomb, you cannot go wrong. Personally i think that the Mexican food in Long Beach is pretty poor but Coco Renos is the exception. All their meats are high quality and cooked to perfection. The chips are made fresh on premises and their salsa is spicy and delicious. I cant praise this place more and to make it better, this place is connected to the bar the Reno Room. Awesome, at the beach i can walk to a place that has cheap drinks and food and walk back. Life is good Go Bears

I love this place for chips served with fresh salsa, cerveza and carne asada. The carnitas and the service are both hit or miss.

My BF and I went to a techno party in San Pedro and were starving. We decided to ditch the party and get some grub since we hadn't eat all day. Being vegetarian and trying to find something to eat at 12:00AM can often be quite a feat, but not when you have yelp on your side ;-D This place fits the definition of hole in the wall to a T. I was amazed how many people were eating at midnight, the place was packed. Once I tried the food I knew why. Oh My God Yuuuum! The Deluxe Vegetarian Burrito is so bomb! I loved that they put jicama in it, what a great change! Whenever I am in this neck o' the woods I will definitely stop by for a veggie burrito. *nom nom nom*

Itty-bitty spot with big portions and they're open late. Koo! I've been here a couple times at all different times of the day. There's about 4 tables to huddle and sit around while the cooks make your platters right there in front. I didn't know it was so small the first time I went, so my group of 4 squeezed in on a pub table. A lot of people complain about the space but I think it creates a good different vibe..breaking that personal bubble with whoever your with and the party next to you. The food comes out fast and the chips and salsa are pleasing as I wonder whether to get the enchiladas, veggie burrito, or yummy chile relleno. Those are my regulars and I like em. Huge portions. I usually fill up on the chips and salsa so fast that I find myself taking half of the burrito home. And they're good leftovers! The type that taste even better later. 2-3 people at most if you're gonna eat in. +Margaritas are strong.

I would like to start off with this... I've had decent food at Coco Reno's. However, it's last impression that tends to stick. I'm guessing it's why they call it a "last impression". It could be "lasting impression". I dunno and really, does it matter? Last night, my girlfriend came home with two bean and cheese burritos with sour cream inside for a late night snack for my son and I. I'm what you call a bean and cheese with sour cream inside burrito expert. And so is my 15yr old son, but less defined and slightly better looking. Overjoyed at this moment, we both rip into our B&C's with excitement and enthusiasm. Unfortunately, all glee died when the first bean met the first taste bud. What the hell is going on? I spit out the first bean. It's hard. I take another bite, this one bigger than the first in hopes the hardness and texture of the first bite was just my imagination. It wasn't... I now have a mouth full of hard beans. I start spitting them out one by one, in the same manner as I do with boba. I looked over to my teenage son and he has this puzzled look of confusion and disappointment on his face. "It's the beans Dad, somethings wrong with the beans". At this point we stopped eating. All we could do is wait... wait for the day to come to an end, where we can pick up and start again tomorrow. Perhaps they had a bad night... Next time, I'll stick with the nachos.

I heard about this place from a co-worker so I thought I'd give it a shot since I was in the neighborhood. Walked in just after their lunch rush. It is a tiny place with about 6 tables. They brought out some chips and salsa which were okay. The salsa did not have any spice at all but and I had to give it some salt to bring out the flavor. I ordered the shredded-beef taco combo. The beans and rice were both surprisingly good. More authentic tasting then I thought they would be. The tacos were so-so. They were shredded beef and were slathered in sauce. Pretty messy. They were not the greatest tasting tacos I've had but they were not the worst either. Service was great. I never had an empty glass and my waitress came around often to make sure I was happy with the meal. If I am in the area during lunch time I may go back there again but I wold not make a special trip for this place. Good service, okay food, and shares a restroom with the Reno Room bar next door.

Delicious anytime, but especially when you have the drunk munchies. Friendly service and quick to make your food. It is all made fresh to order. Chips and salsa are awesome. Great place to grab a beer and chill. Really, no complaints...but it is a tad expensive and I just can't replace Taqueria on 4th. They are still great though and I recommend them highly.

The Reno Room is close to my house and I occasionally meet up with friends there for tofu tacos, etc. Let's just get this out of the way first: The salsa is the best in Long Beach and I'm a big fan of the mango margaritas. But don't drink too much of them! I came here on a date once by a guy that asked me out while I was eating on my lunch break. It was a pretty OK 10 minutes into our date until he told me that he recently tried to commit suicide during a pot-induced (that always gets me) epiphany that if he didn't kill himself in that moment, he would try to kill his girlfriend-at-the-time. So he failed at committing suicide and became a born again Christian. He might as well have told me that he eats live babies. I had to drink 4 mango margaritas to get through that date and that was SUCH A BAD IDEA! It's too much sugar! I could barely make it walking home without throwing up! At least I had a good excuse to hurry back to my apartment. So yeah, I love Coco Reno's.

Reno Room is my husband's and my favorite bar in Long Beach. The atmosphere is super relaxed, there are always people there yet not too crowded, the staff is awesome, and you can grub on some good Mexican food if the munchies strike. Lately, I'm most inclined to hit up the Reno Room to get my drink on, more than any other bar around. Pool tables, booth seating, and a great juke box finish off the features of this laid back Long Beach gem.

Happy St. Patty's Day! Let's go to a Mexican restaurant! Yeah...uh, no. This is what happens when your favorite Irish pub stops serving food at 10pm and you have no other choices within walking distance. All I wanted was a Pear Cider and buffalo wings -- and I had to settle for piss water and fish tacos across the street at Coco Renos. Now, I am no stranger to Coco Renos; I have spent many a nights at the Reno Room (adjacent bar) and have ordered nachos with carne asada on a drunken stooper. But seriously, if I had the choice between Taco Bell and Coco Renos, I would rather suck air and starve. Bleh. But alas, we found ourselves eating chips and salty salsa, drinking PBR's and SALTY margaritas in a closet of a restaurant...on the greenest of days. The Leprechauns will not be proud.

A teeny-tiny addition to the venerable Long Beach bar The Reno Room, this is a place you stumble into after you've been out and having a few. That said, I think I definitely ordered the wrong thing here on a Sunday afternoon. I wasn't in the mood for typical Mexican fare and opted for their "signature" Cancun salad. Hm, if this is their signature salad, I fear for their non-signature dishes. It sounded good on paper: blackened shrimp or chicken with avocado and fruit on a bed of mixed greens. I did get blackened shrimp with some slices of avocado and some measly slivers of barely ripe mango on a bed of chopped iceberg lettuce and some tired diced tomatoes. Uh, did I miss the memo or is it OK to call just iceberg lettuce "mixed greens?" The blackened shrimp and avocado part was fine, but the rest of the salad? As my review says, "Meh." The dressing it came with was weird too--wasn't sure what it was supposed to be. It just tasted like a bunch of oil. I've been here before and had some regular Mexican stuff and it was fine, but this salad was pretty pathetic. My friend ordered the mahi mahi tacos and enjoyed them--I think you need to know what to order here for a satisfactory experience. The waitress was nice, but not enough to pull this up to a 3 stars.

So I was in this part of the south bay and looking for the mexican food that I can't get at home. Recommended by a family member. Party of three walked in and sat at the bar area (not the bar Reno Room, but the counter in the offshoot Cocrenos.) Attractive waitress went into the bar and got some other person to serve us. He took our order and then went back into the bar where I saw him hand the order to the guy playing pool. He came in to cook it up. On the plus side, he did wash his hands. But can you get a stronger feeling of "Screw you for interrupting me with your patronage?" The chips were good but the accompanying salsa was on par with "fresh" supermarket tub salsa. You know, tomatoes that are definitely preserved in something to keep their form but not necessarily their flavor. So the party had 1 order chicken tacos, 1 order carne assada tacos, 1 order of the tamale special on the board. The Tamales were brought out and put in the microwave (Yeah, I know, lots of places do this) and then served with sauce and lots of yellow cheese. The chicken tacos were utterly flavorless and the Carne Assada had no marinade flavor other than lime. And both were covered with shredded iceberg and mounds of orange and white shredded cheese. (Supermarket Cheddar Jack out of a bag maybe?) The SECOND our plates were in front of us the cook picked up his cue that was leaned up against the wall and headed back to the bar. Props to them for having lots of vegetarian options but this is Belmont Heights so they know their audience. I should have gone in that direction. It might have been tastier. So thanks for the recommendation. You sent me to the most americanized taqueria I've been in for a decade. Looking for a big meal cheap, Cocrenos is fine. Looking for tasty authentic mexican food, anywhere in Long Beach is probably better than this.

This place is just OK. Nothing spectacular but not below average enough for me to drop it down to two stars. I have been here three times. The place itself is a cool little hangout and the bar staff is friendly. As for the food, believe me there is way better Mexican food in this great city of Long Beach. If I had the choice I would totally drive else where, but when a friend asks you to come along... I figure sure why not. I have had their carne asada tacos and a Mexican chicken salad, both were edible and filled me up for pretty cheap. I was much happier with my choice of blackened mahi tacos this time. 7 bucks for two tacos with home made tortillas, totally works for me. The chips and salsa are decent, the salsa being better then the chips which never seem too fresh. I guess once you have a few beers this place works out well.

We ordered some nachos while playing some pool in the Reno Room. For 8 bucks, we got a huge plate loaded with Mexican goodness. My man said he was here for lunch one day and had the zesty meat tacos. This place is convenient and provides good sustenance whilst playing the pool.... it's very likely i will eat here again, but mainly because it's connected to the bar ;)

I am an extremely picky eater on top of being a vegetarian, and I love all of their veggie food. It's basically the same thing wrapped up a lot of ways: feel like tortillas, get the veggie taco. Feel like a lot of lettuce, get the veggie salad. You can also get burritos and blackened mushroom tacos, and tofu tacos too. Yum yum yum.Their salsa is also very delicious, and the mango margaritas. On the downside, you always leave this place smelling like fried tortilla, so don't stop in before a hot date.

This is the best hole-in-the-wall in Long Beach. Cheap, greasy, delicious Mexican food with the best margaritas in town. They serve until midnight and you can get food in the bar (Reno Room) next door or in the tiny restaurant. They have plenty of vegetarian options. The blackened mushroom tacos are amazing!

So thankful that Coco Renos is vegetarian friendly - a rarity on Long Beach. This place has a great, small, taco-joint appeal, but it's menu is impressive - especially with several vegetarian options. I had the Mushroom Taco plate - as recommended from previous yelp reviews and it was quite impressive!- with the chips & salsa and a margarita, all was well. Cozy space, nice service, convenient to the Reno Room. Great food. Veggie friendly. I am definitely a fan.

I have eaten here around 10 times, and it has been very good and very poor. Sometimes my food is very good, and sometimes not. Today I ate there, and my relleno was burnt (not roasted), soggy crusted and the service was poor. I do not expect to be pampered, but I do want water filled. They tend to bring you the check as soon as you get the meal, and that can be good or bad. I live next door to here, so I frequent this place. I give it 3 stars because it varies on quality of food and service. If you want good service it helps to order a beer, every time I have they take better care of me. I have now had 2 bad meals in a row here, so it will be awhile before I return.

This place is so unauthentically Mexican, it's funny. I would venture a guess that because this place is connected to a bar, they get a constant flow of inebriated customers. I can probably see enjoying this food if I were completely hammered--and maybe that's the point. I've been known to partake in Jack-in-the-Box tacos when good and sloshed (cocoreno tacos also include bright orange cheese), but it doesn't make me proud of myself the next day. Nor did eating here. Taqueria on fourth street will be lighter on your wallet and your stomach--and you'll keep your taco street cred.

I started my trip in So Cal with a healthy Fish Taco and Blue Moon for breakfast....then topped it off with a good 'o beef taco. The fish taco rocked. At first I was a little skeptical with the no so green iceberg lettuce...but the fish inside was super, a fat fillet of fish, not chunks. The beef taco was good as well....but if I come back, definitely the fish. Taqueria is adjoined with the bar Reno Room next door, and the place has two pool tables....hehe...pool is cool.

Wow! I dont know what happened to my beloved CocoRenos, but this place is now officially crap! This used to be my "goto" mexican joint. They used to have the best nachos and the best carne asada. Needless to say they are now far from that beloved place I held close to my heart. We haven't been here for a little over a year, and decided to go and get a carne asada burrito and some nachos. My husband ordered the carne asada burrito plate and I ordered the nachos (no beans or enchilada sauce, with sour cream on the side) When our food came it was completely wrong. His burrito was not a "plate" but more "on a plate" with no beans or rice as the "plate" states it comes with on the menu. The burrito was probably the size of one of those frozen burritos you get at the supermarket. it had only carne asada and cheese in it. (?!?) my nachos came smothered in enchilada sauce and the shredded beef was in giant 1 inch cube chunks. The cook didnt even take time to shred the beef a LITTLE. It was impossible to eat. I literally had 4 chips and used my fork to take a bite out of the shredded beef. After asking the waitress what was up with my husbands carne asada plate she got all confused and said she didnt see the option on the menu for the "plate" and that the cook must have made a mistake by not putting beans and rice IN the burrito or on the side. so she brought us a giant plate of beans to make up for it (?!?) made no sense. I miss the old cooks and the old waitresses. The only thing I still like about the place is that the salsa hasnt changed at all. hence the ONE star... Writing this terrible review for CoCoRenos broke my heart.

The mushrooms tacos here are out of this world. I swear. I'm not even vegan and that is always what I order when I go to Coco Reno's. It's tough to enjoy yourself on a crowded weekend night, but this is a great place to go for lunch (especially on the weekend after a day at Veteran's Swap Meet) to enjoy some Cadillac margaritas and mushroom tacos. Coco Reno's is cheap and casual. The bar next door is part of Long Beach history...but, sadly, lame.

Super tiny hole in the wall. - no, really TINY! but so worth it. Especially if you are a vegetarian! - Tofu Tacos, Tofu Burritos.. my all time favorite the blackened mushroom tacos.. and *I*m not even vegetarian! Parking can be a pain.. depending on what time you get there.. me and mine have a little trick - we'll do a drive by and if it looks like a table is open, I'll hop out and grab it - while he parks the car. THAT is how much we love the place. oh, and the margaritas there are WOOOooNELLY! Made with REAL lime juice - and what tastes like a top shelf tequila. Even if you can't get a table - you can still get your order to go.. hell, get it to go and take it to the lil' park down the street.. or take it over to Ocean and sit by the beach! - it's that good!

In an effort to get out of my food-bubble, I've decided to pick a street and walk till I find dinner...this was my first shot at that. It really is a damn hole in the wall...nevvvver would I have stopped if I were in my car. I walked in on a Monday afternoon and it was dead but hunger calls so I tolerated the staff's stares and proceeded to get myself fed. Ordered chicken enchiladas with rice and black beans. I picked a mexican staple dish because If you can't cook enchiladas, then you have no business advertising mexican food. Complimentary chips and some pretty spicey salsa and I was set. As I mentioned, it was dead so I got served ASAP and saw food in front of me in 15 minutes tops. Speed is key to success. Food was alright...it wasn't the best mexican food I've had but it did the job. Since Im venturing out by myself, I enjoyed the small quarters....It's uncomfortable eating alone when you're in a new place but this was pleasant. I'd come back and since this place is vegetarian friendly, I'd bring my veggie friends to enjoy some canola oil heaven:)

After having some not so good Mexican food over the weekend, I was really craving something good to cancel out the bad taste left in my mouth. A friend suggested Cocoreno's as an option, which I was delighted since never having tried it in my 7 years here in the LBC. I am pleased to have a good taste in my mouth. It was occupied with only one or two seating options open when we arrived at 8pm, but my friend tells me that it's typically far more difficult to get in so quickly. Let me tell you that my "Mexican food" tastes don't stray further than a cheese enchilada combo plate, so I can't really attest to much more, and I probably never will either. My enchiladas were great, the rice, good, but the beans... not so much. I felt like they were really bland, to which my friend replied, "Because they're not made with lard." I try to eat relatively healthy, and, when I do actually fall of the wagon, I like it to be well worth my while. So, that means I like my beans made with lard. Oh, and the chips and salsa were great too. Been a long time since I had chips that good. Oh, and I noticed some people checked off that the place doesn't have alcohol... so not true, as indicated by the bar they share space with and the chalk menu full of drink options!

Okay....maybe I'm a bit biased towards this place since I did live upstairs from the joint for 5 years. For nearly 2 years Cocorenos was my dinner. Why you might ask? Well, it was the only thing open past 10pm. and no...I'm not a chubby bubby!!!! I started ordering the shredded beef chimichangas, moved onto the wet burritos, and have happily settled on the shrimp cancun salad with blackened mushrooms. Far healthier!!! There's usually a place to sit unless you show up around dinner time when it does get packed. There are only 4 tables that sit 2 comfortably....4 people at one table does get kinda packed. YOU CAN ALSO SIT IN THE BAR AND EAT. A lot of people don't realize the waitress will go out there and serve you regardless if you're at the bar or at a booth inside the Reno Room. But, keep in mind, if you're eating in the bar, the restaurant is full, so your service WON'T be as fast. I love the endless amount of chips and salsa, one of my favorite parts. One of my least favorite parts is the parking. The restaurant shares a parking lot in the back of the building with The Library coffee shop, the piercing shop, and all the rest of the jerks who park there even though they aren't patrons of the building. (you people know who you are! parking in the lot and then going to EJ Malloy's. GRRRR!!!!!). Sometimes parking in that general area is a bit tough, but it's definitely not the restaurants fault. But be aware!

I liked this place alright. My husband loves burritos so we tried this place out since they have a few vegan options. It's really cool that they offer tofu or mushrooms as a sub for meat. I can appreciate that. The place was pretty small but I liked it once we got seated. My food was good. I ordered the veggie burrito and it was tasty except for the tomatillo sauce. It wasn't like green enchilada sauce which was what I was expecting. It was super chunky and peppery. Next time I'll probably try the tofu tacos but overall I was stoked. OH! And your food is done in less than 5 minutes during the lunch rush!

I have a good friend named Chissum Worthington who lives in Long Beach. He wrote a song about this place that is so catchy and infectious that it makes me picture the perfect taqueria. Here are some lyrics: Cocorenos. Come to Cocorenos on Broadway and Redondo. Cocorenos Come to Cocorenos with me. hey hey hey Chips and salsa Carne asada Cadillac margarita Cocorenos with me You can actually hear the whole song at: myspace.com/chissumworth… One day, they should use the song for one of those cheap cable commercials. Anyway, the problem is that Cocorenos is in Long Beach. I am rarely in that part of town so I didn't get to go for almost a year. The entire year that my friend played the song, I found myself ravenous for chips, salsa, asada and a cadillac margarita. When I finally made my way to the LBC for Cocorenos, that was exactly what I ordered: Chips and Salsa: Well, I didn't order them. They came with the meal. I found the salsa to be so addictive. We needed a few refills on this Carne Asada: I had it in a burrito. So good. The Asada tastes incredibly sweet and juicy. Cadillac Margarita: This drink was the way I like it, strong. I usually tell them that Chissum Worthington sent me and they just give me a strange look.

I was introduced to Coco Renos by a very close friend a few years ago, when she was a still student at CSULB. I remember having their tofu tacos and being hooked~ I've ordered the same meal each and every time I go there. I was happy with the salsa, impressed watching tortillas turn into chips, and content crunching on tofu tacos fried to perfection. I craved it yesterday, so we hit up this hole-in-the-wall spot and worked our way through a basket of chips (cold) and spicy salsa. Not sure what made me do it, but I decided to go for the blackened mushroom tacos this time around... and they turned out just being okay. they looked great, but they were lacking zest. The rice and beans were good though. Thank goodness for staple food products! Anyway, while chomping through my meal, I noticed a citation sign posted, and that bugged me. it was for machinery or equipment, so it wasn't that bad, but my mind was already racing thinking about how this place sooo isn't what it used to be. also~ what was up with the waitress? bad day? she seemed to just want to sulk in the corner wrapping utensils. and I love how the cook straight out burst through the door for a cigarette break once our orders were in. i guess something stressful is going on there? I mean, i'll be back there to grub some more, but they've seriously got to get their passion/zest/whatever back. it's almost depressing in there! I remember when it was festive, fun and full of potential!

So let me just start by saying I USED to be a die hard fan of this place. so much so that i have given them about 6 chances before I decided never to return and right this review. In all fairness let me say I don't eat there it's always to go (that place is just too damn small and hot). order always wrong or missing something which suuuucks! plus the food has seriously tasted really bad the last 6 times at least. the staff well, depends on who's there. there is one really nice guy and waitress and then there are the starers and too social to notice you staff (and by you i mean all the customers). Sad i really liked this place but i believe it's time has past ...

I ignore the fact that they cook my vegetarian food on the same surface as the meats, the suggestions and notices that they are unsanitary, the likelihood that I will have to wait for a seat or resort to sitting in the bar area with local boners. The tofu tacos and chips y salsa are awesome.

I make it a point to come here at least once or twice a month for a shredded beef taco plate and a Guinness. It's definitely a small place, but the food is worth it. I'm always happy to be greeted with a basket of their fresh chips & salsa. I've had other items on their menu (the burritos are tasy and huge), but I try to limit myself from walking out of the place feeling overstuffed. After reading other reviews here, I'm eager to make it a mushroom or tofu taco plate next time I stop by.

Excellent authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price, but with quality ingrefiants. Cocorenos is a small restaurant that also serves its food in the World Famous Reno Room (one of the many Long Beach dive bars). They serve complementary fresh made chips and salsa, but beware: the salsa is hot. I always get the wet chicken burrito wet, which is made with breast meat that is quite flavorful. You have a choice of black beans or refried beans on all dishes that have beans as an ingredient.

The place is alittle bit small, can seat no more than 20 people. the customer service was good. We were doing a pub crawl of some sort and it was that part of the evening where we were all absolutely ravenous. My friend Maria, aka LB local extraordinaire, suggested Coco Renos. When I walked in I felt like she knows my life and my love of Mexican food. Yep, I can eat it all day every day and when I've been drinking I can absolutely devour it. We sat at the counter and were immediately served with menus, water, and chips and salsa that was amazing. I ordered the nachos and as they made it I knew it would be something special. They grilled the chicken and piled everything on then threw it in the oven so everything would be all melty. The only thing I wished someone told me is that the portion is so big it can be shared. But, who am I kidding? I didn't want to share. I wanted alllll the nachos. In fact, I'd like allll the nachos right now.

Hole in the wall is right. What a disaster. I will never eat at this place again. I was so upset, I didn't pay for my full tab or a tip I asked for iced tea and the waitress brings back tap water. I told The cook about this because he is The one that took my food order, He excuses it with, "Maybe we were out of tea." Really now? Then I told The cook I wanted a dish without chicken, but instead with shrimp and he gives me a hassle about that. Wow is it really that difficult to substitute chicken with shrimp? Someone finally brings me my iced tea and it tasted like it was spiked with dish detergent. Mmm "yummy". The waitress checked on me 1 time after the other cook served my food, which was poor to mediocre at best. It had very little flavor, and the citrus sauce just tastes like chartreuse green grapeseed oil. At one point I asked for different sauce other than that disgusting chartreuse green sauce with no flavor and she responds," We don't have any other sauce." Then she brings back green chile sauce. Well gee, isn't that different sauce? Stupid... The chips and salsa appetizer they serve you are stale and the red sauce is too hot. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. It was some kind of salad with mango in it and shrimp instead of the usual chicken. The lettuce was shredded all to hell, instead of cut And lets get one thing straight, THIS IS A DIVE BAR, first and foremost. The restaurant is just the sidekick operation on the other side. People have bad taste if they think the food is great here. It's gross and so is the service. Edit: Erika: Well considering the fact that I eat once a day, eating the whole plate of food was somewhat of a necessity. The only thing I didn't pay for was the iced-tea, which like I said tasted like it was spiked with detergent. Why should anyone have to pay for that??? There is no excuse for Stale chips either. And all this nonsense about avocados being special is ridiculous. California has avocados coming out of its pores. We have an avocado tree that requires little maintenance and we always end up giving some away because we can't eat them all. They're easy to grow

Trying the blackened mushroom tacos next time :) Can't wait to bring my friends and family to this gem! Wonderful good and exceptionally friendly customer service :) 5 stars!

The is a very quaint little mexican restaurant. Seating is limited but they do have takeout. Fortunately we were able to get a seat at one of the tables. Our server brought us chips and salsa almost immediately after we were seated. That's a great start! I ordered the Chili Relleno. I'm very picky when it comes to Rellenos! I don't like overly battered chili's, just ruins the concept. NOT HERE!! The Chili Relleno was AMAZING. PERFECT!! I'm a light eater so it says something when I eat the whole Chile Relleno! All of it. I did get the combo but with all beans. The beans were tasty, definitely home made, no can beans for sure. I'm going to order the Shrimp Salad next time. I saw it pass the table, looks good. Can't wait.. One warning.. there's one hot sauce on the table to avoid, unless you can handle extreme heat going in and out!! It's delicious but the heat punch gets your lips and mouth burning. Let alone the repercussions of ingesting this hot sauce. It has XXX on the label, so be warned. :-)

This little Mexican spot is to cute. I enjoyed my meal, it was priced fair and they have a full bar. They loose a star because of how ridiculously small it is, 4 tables!! And a few bar stools. That's crazy small. I will be back!!!

Wow biggest jerk waitress ever . Some young prissy thing . She just had the worst attitude and we left her no tip . She ruined me and my husband one year wedding anniversary lunch . Thanks a lot jerk . ALSO , the food was cold as fuck and shitty and I will never eat here again

I've come to Coco Renos twice over the past few weeks. The first time I thought it was just okay, and the second time I really liked it. I got the carne asada burrito on my first visit. It was a giant burrito that had good ingredients besides the meat itself. Skirt steak was not used, and was more along the lines of the diced beef that you would find in a stew. I wanted good carne asada, but got some funky beef instead. On my second visit I got the shrimp burrito. It was delicious and made me so glad I gave Coco Reno a second try. It was huge, packed with plenty of shrimp, rice, and beans. The service was excellent both times. It's a small place that can feel cramped with limited seating. However, it makes it easy to track someone down for help. Refills on drinks, chips and salsa came quickly and frequently. I was stuffed both times after eating here. There is also a bar connected to the restaurant that has pool tables. The original reason we came was to play pool, but both times we were way too full to even check it out. I will definitely be back for sure to get a shrimp burrito, and maybe actually make it to the bar to play pool too.

Best hard shell tacos I've ever eaten. Taco Tuesdays tacos are very small...not even worth ordering. Very noisy enviroment and only about 4 booths. Ordered a to-go order today. They didn't put the lid on the bean container tight, so when I turned left the whole bag fell over and beans went all over my car seat. Not a happy camper. It's a thumbs up on the food.

There's no shortage of Mexican food in Long Beach, but Coco Renos is worth a try. I really like the laid back atmosphere of this joint, whose inside closely resembles a beachy food stand. It is kind of tiny, but luckily we weren't there during peak hours. There's even a pool table in the back room, and I was told - a bar? Didn't go back there to check though. Before we ordered, the waitress promptly brought us chips and salsa. The salsa was made in house, and really good! I decided on a Wet Fish Burrito ($7.75). Having your burrito slathered in enchilada sauce makes it taste 10 times better. For under $8, you get a very hefty serving that will satiate the hungriest of people. Even though the burrito was good, I don't really recommend getting the fish one, because I lost the subtle flavor of the fish in everything else. I'll be back soon! Food: 3.5, Service: 4, Environment: 4, Price: 3

We had breakfast there today. Chips and Salsa were really good, I ordered the cheese enchiladas, they were very oily I couldn't eat it but I tried to eat at least half. The guacamole was also really good. My boyfriend got the taco plate which he said was really good, I tried the steak and it was really good , so I will get that next time! Server was good is a small place and they were playing rap really loud which made me wanna leave, they should know, not everyone likes it!! .

THIS IS HONESTLY MY FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT ON THE PLANET. I love the fact that a vegetarian such as myself can eat here and choose from an array of options on their menu. My favorite are the tofu tacos, vegetarian tacos, and tofu burrito. The chips and salsa is SO GOOD.... But be careful, they are addictive! Oh and the staff is awesome too! Ps- it's attached to a bar so don't forget to enjoy a cold beer or margarita with your meal.

Cocoreno's is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. I usually order the Chicken Enchilada and Blackened Mushroom Taco Combo Plate. Their salsa is great and has a nice kick to it. On a busy day there might be a wait as this place is really small and parking can be tough to find.

I was studying at The Library (coffee shop next door) and decided to get food from here since it was more convenient. WORSE DECISION EVER. I ordered 2 tacos (beef and pork) to go. The tortilla crumbled and fell apart even before I took my first bite. This was within 10 mins of grabbing the to-go bag and sitting back down at the table I was studying at, 2 stores down. The meat was edible but did not stand out in anyway. The only positive thing from this was the free small bag of chips I got with my order. I ate probably 20% of my food and threw it away. The first thought that came to my mind...I should have waited another hour to get something on the way home from studying. :/

The food is so good, I seriously just come for the abondigas soup, best in town. They run out quickly. I've had everything so far nothing has disappointed me. The waitress is a hit n miss but that's what take out is for. This place is small just a warning but is connected to one of the coolest dive bar, Chelsea makes the best rasberry tom collins.

  • Matt G.

I lived across the street from this place and used to get take out frequently. The waitresses here are super friendly and the food is really good. Its not authentic so don't expect authenticity. The Machaca and Carne Asada wet burritos are my favorite with a side of guacamole. There is a bar called the Reno Room above this place but I have never went there. Its pretty popular though.

I so wanted to love this place. Food looks really good but it lacks FLAVOR for Mexican food. I had shrimp taco plate with black beans and Spanish rice. Rice was seasoned well, but the beans taste like they opened the can and poured them in a bowl with no flavor. Tacos were just ok. Nothing to brag about. Can't say that I would come back. Oh, the staff was cool. Good customer service.

Decent Mexican food for a decent price. We did not receive a warm getting when being seated but we're given free chips and salsa. The salsa was so tasty and spicy! I ordered 2 shrimp tacos and one chicken enchilada combination plate. The shrimp tacos were nothing special; soft tortillas, lettuce, shredded cheese and grilled shrimp and cost $6.50. The chicken enchiladas tested excellent. The chicken was soft and melt in your mouth and the cheese and sauce perfectly compliments it. The Spanish rice was delicious! I could eat a whole plate of it. Our waitress belt liked us in the eye and seemed bothered by our simple order. The customer service needs some work.

How very disappointing. Went in to try the beef tacos and the ground beef was burnt and just nasty!! I won't be coming back. C'mon man!!! How can you sell, however cheap, old stale, and recooked meat? Just a disappointment. Had to throw them out! I went in around 8:00 pm -Tuesday, 10/28. Thanks for your response.

I've eaten here a few times and I really like it. I've had the fish tacos and fish burrito. The batter for the Baja fish needs some work though. It tastes like a light corn dog batter than a fried fish batter. The place is also super small but nice it's connected to the Reno room and you can order food from there too. Great place!

A hidden treasure in the heart of Long Beach. This is my go-to for lunch with my boys. Its super small inside with seating for only about 20. On a cold day, the albondigas soup is the ish! I have tried nearly everything on the menu & have yet to be disappointed. The staff is friendly & quick. They serve great Margaritas & beer on tap. If you desire Mexican grub with a side of pool....as in cue & 8 ball, this is your joint! Parking in back or on the street.

Great friendly service and awesome food to match. Wet burritos are a must. Not too many tables but you can go to the Reno Room next door if it's full and eat the same food there

I came here with my boyfriend late on a Saturday night- open till 1 AM on Saturday! I got a Beef wet burrito and he got an enchilada. The burrito was absolutely delicious! The beef was so flavorful; some of the best Mexican I've had in Long Beach! He really enjoyed his enchilada but we both agreed that the beef burrito was the best. The place is really small, so you might have to wait on a week night but there was no wait for us since we came past 12 AM. It's connected to a bar so it could be a great spot to go after drinks!

  • Emily R.

So glad I finally got to stop here for $1.50 taco Tuesday with $3 Modelos! A tiny, but awesome, little spot with A TON of veggie options, I opted for the tofu tacos and they did not disappoint! Our server was super sweet, the chips were great and the salsa was a bit too spicy for me...but I still kept trying to dip. Will definitely come back when in the LBC!

  • Rae C.

This is as 'hole in the wall' as it gets. The restaurant is tucked away within the Reno Room bar. And most times, I'm not down to be cramped up next to some strangers. But given that there is a bar steps away, and we can keep the drinky drinks rolling, I have no qualms rubbin elbows with fellow Mexican food lovers. I've had almost everything on the menu. I have never been let down. The food is tasty, not too greasy, and totally worth the prices they're valued at. Their salsa... the spiciest in the west. BUT SO STUPID ADDICTING. It's a very love hate relationship I have with their salsa. It's not 5 star worthy because of ambience, or restaurant worthiness... But it's a grand spankin time regardless. Just go, and you'll see what I mean. 5 stars, Rae approved.

One of my favorite little taco stands. This place is very small and quaint inside. Not a place I would recommend for large parties or families. I live a few blocks away, so anytime I feel like mexican food, I hit them up. The food is amazing, the prices are great, and the service is excellent!

We just had a midnight meal here. I would like to give it four stars and a half stars, since I have such a hard time giving five, and I think that this place is better than four. We just got done eating there, and all of the food was really tasty. I think that this was probably the best chile relleno that I have tried in SoCal in living memory. WAY better than at Enrique's. My friend LOVED the salsa, and felt that it is the best he has ever had. I think that it is good, but there are also some other places with really good salsa. The fact that you can have your drinks (from the Reno Room) while sitting and having your Mexican food is very cool. Finally, our waitress was very professional, and also quite charming. Cute haircut (asymetrical). I hope she is there next time I head back, which will be soon. Overall very pleased with the place.

Coco Reno's/The Reno Room is not a 5 star bar/restaurant, but it is a Yelp 5 star good time! Ambiance: This place kind of has a two in one experience: there is the dark, divey side (Reno Room) and the better-lit taqueria side (Coco Reno's) that makes your clothes smell like tacos. Choose your own adventure! (Same food on either side.) Staff: We are regulars and everyone who has waited on us has been pleasant and quick. Jaclyn is normally our server and she's a doll- attentive, friendly, and happy to oblige. Food: Renos is a vegetarian/vegan haven! My husband is an omnivore and blah, blah, he likes what he orders, but their veg-friendly fare is great! First of all the basics, rice and beans, aren't cooked with lard or chicken broth, so you can kind of build whatever you want. However, you don't have to because there are so many veg options on the menu: enchiladas, tofu salads, mushroom tacos, etc. Servers have been nice about letting me alter my order to get it just to my picky, picky perfection. (I've never had a problem with hidden meat as another reviewer said.) Bar Stuff: Tasty drinks, pool, juke box, photo booth, dingy bathroom. What else could you ask for? Price: I think the most expensive thing on the menu is still under 10 bucks and you can stuff your face for less than that. Taco Tuesdays rock my world with $1.50 tacos (2 or 3 veggie flavors available) and $3 margaritas. Other drinks are pretty cheap as well. BYODD! One Negative: Their salsa is almost always a five alarm fire in my mouth. Try a dot of it on a delicious, freshly made chip before you go nuts. I wish they would change that. Won't someone please think of the white people!?

Came here on a Tuesday night for the first time being lead on by yelp. I always struggle finding a good taco spot but this was definitely the right spot! Me and my boyfriend ordered a set of carne asada, fish, shrimp, and chicken tacos. Each one was amazing and extremely flavorful! I left satisfied and planning my next trip back!

Great late night dining option in Long Beach. We ordered the shrimp tacos, carne Asada hard shell tacos and the carne Asada quesadilla. All were extremely flavorful! The quesadilla had just the right amount of cheese and lots of seasoned steak. The tacos were super good with the hard shell tacos being a very pleasant surprise. Really light, thin texture. I loved the spicy salsa and chips and the margaritas were standard. It has it's own spin on Mexican that's driven by their seasoning and quick, hot grilling. The place itself has a cool vibe and service was awesome - relaxed but very attentive. Yes there are tons of Mexican options in Long Beach but it's definitely worth a try!

  • Marcas E.

What can you say about this place. Its a little hole in the wall with the cooks playing Spanish music and great food. My partner and I have been going here for years and love it. The shrimp burrito is the bomb. The food is just great and the sevice is the best. We live in the OC and drive to Long Beach just to eat here. If you like authentic mexican food this is the place to go check out.

Really top notch hole in the wall joint! Very homey and relaxed. Highlights: off the chain salsa, a Michelin quality chile relleno that melts in your mouth. Great refried beans too! Will need to return to the scene of the crime again. So should you!

I was hard on them in my last review because of order inaccuracies, so I wanted to update this. I've been eating here A LOT recently and haven't had problems. Their food is delicious and best of all - VEGAN OPTIONS. Stop by and have a Margarita!

  • Brian G.

I feel the need to update this to say that Coco Renos management contacted my girlfriend later that same day to apologize for the incident and promise to take steps to prevent such occurrences in the future. They put up a "no soliciting" sign and publicly noted their intention to address this kind of thing. They've got a ton of reviews on Yelp, mostly positive, and would have survived our little drop of bad publicity in the ocean of accolades. But they still addressed it, and we really truly appreciate that. Kudos to Coco Reno's and thanks.

I am so sad about this one.. My friend blew this place up with love... but for me.. meh. The table salsa was de-lish... but too hot to just enjoy (I love "hot" salsa, but I believe it should more flavor than heat.. with heat you can only enjoy so much before you start dumping sugar on your tongue).. the green salsa yummo! Chips were fresh... I just ran in and got some tacos to go as it was late.. I got the mushroom taco.. which I enjoyed, but I've had WAY better... but why the 3 stars.. the gringo-fied carne asada taco... wow... not that was one gringo taco.. mild seasoning... MILD... didn't even know it was salted... really... bland... and then iceberg lettuce and cheddar cheese as toppers... Really? No onions? No cilantro? No limes? Oh... ok..next time I will ask for them.. service was great.. I was in and out like a one night stand.. quick but let down. I will def go back and try the chicken tortilla soup and other vegetarian items... Thanks for the quickie and left my number for you to call me back... well.. OK a fake number... but still its the thought that counts.

Coco Renos is one of my favorite Long Beach establishments. I love coming to this little hole in the wall for some delicious enchiladas or fish tacos. It is my neighborhood go to for Mexican food! I love that I can walk there and particularly on a hot day, I love to order their frozen margaritas. The staff is always friendly and prompt. My favorite part however, is that this place attracts both vegetarians, vegans, meat eaters, drinkers, non-drinkers, and pretty much everyone living in Long Beach. Because of that variety in their menu, everyone has a story about coming here, whether it was for a first date or a celebration. It goes beyond being a restaurant into being a symbol of community. And that's what keeps me coming back!

Who knew? Really, who knew that this place was pretty legit? I know now! I've walked by this place tons of times on the way over to the Long Beach Pizza Co. joint, just a few doors down.. I always thought I would only find cheap and greasy Mexican food inside, so didn't bother to try. But one day, the hubby and I said, "Why the hell not?". So, we came, we ate, and we left very happy that we found another fab local Mexican spot. I ordered the Taquitos (which came in very generous portions), and my hubby ordered a wet burrito (that was HUGE). Chips and salsa are tasty, although beware, because the salsa is kinda spicy. Service was friendly, and very timely. We came on a Wednesday night, so it wasn't very busy... I'm thinking Thursday - Saturday are pretty busy, especially since there are a couple bars around there. We'll be back!

I like this place very, very much. I have been a patron of the Reno Room long before the hip crowd came in. I was there when Jimmy was the bartender and the place opened a 6am and they had an old school juke box. I am glad they opened this place and i think you get great food at a fair price. It is worth going in there. You can eat in the RR and order from there too. I just went on here again because last night I went and had feast. I have never had a bad meal here. I read some of the Whiner's reviews here and they complain about the chips being mediocre? Yet they more than likely eat chips from an AM/PM mini mart. I also am amused hearing it isn't real Mexican food, well tell that to the Mexican cooking it. This is a great place don't let all the negative people keep you away.

  • Jeromy W.

Come here sometimes only for my fiancé but I don't like the food. Salsa is the best I have tasted, but food lacks that real Mexican taste. Cool if you just need to put something in your belly but if you want great food try another place. The dinning area is to small to actually enjoy your meal just take it to go. They also charge you a extra fee if you get your food to go. And when you order tacos you can only order in two's no three tacos here.

  • Amanda P.

This is a good place for quick, veggie-friendly Mexican food. Yes, it's tiny, and I don't know how hard it usually is to get a table; we were here around 7 on a Thursday and there was plenty of seating. The free chips and salsa are really good. The salsa has a nice kick to it without being too spicy. The tofu tacos are okay, but it's just plain tofu, so it's not very flavorful. It would be better if it had some kind of marinade or seasoning. The rice and refried beans were good, though the rice was a little bit dry. The service is quick and the prices are reasonable, at least for someone who's used to eating in Orange County.

I was riding my motorcycle around trying to find this place and then I realized it was connected to the Reno room I don't really care for this place at all my burrito wasn't that good my chips ehh. but everyone I know love this place what's the deal?

Best quality and value in the neighborhood and beyond. Wish they had coke products instead of pepsi, but I have found this common amongst mexican restaurants. GREAT food and an honest price for the food. My favorite local grub!

  • Carmen C.

Came here because of the vegetarian/vegan friendly options my only dissapointment was that it wasn't wheelchair accessible. The bar next to it is accessible so I wheeled in through there. I will be back when I want a drink and then eat something. My friend loved the fish tacos. I had a tostada wich was ok. We both ate well for under twenty bucks so that was nice .

  • Angela D.

I will be returning. Nuff said, no but seriously I enjoyed veggie deluxe burrito and the chips and salsa were yummy. The atmosphere was very intimate and cozy. Also, there is a connecting bar with a pool table. So, I'd recommend this place.

I believe my 3rd time here and I've always gotten the shrimp burrito. It's already my fave and has one my heart. The shrimp has a fresh taste, doesn't have that frozen nasty taste. This little hole in the wall definitely has a place in my heart. If you're ever in the Belmont heights area, stop by.

  • Xena P.

I love this local eatery. And they have a few pool tables for fun! This place serves the ultimate nachos, chicken or shredded beef, that are exceptional. They have a dining room set near the bar and also a smaller eating area in the back. This is pretty much a locals scene so the atmosphere is laid back and easy, so leave your ego at the door.

Crave their tofu wet burrito ... Why other Mexican places wont do this ... I have no idea. My favorite Mexican food spot in the LBC, easy.

You leave the place smelling like tortilla chips in a sauna*, feeling like Chris Farley because the place is so crowded*, with your tongue burning from salsa and food so spicy you think you are being punk'd, wondering which of your friends will trip on the step on your way out... ...but it's worth it because the service is great, the food is delicious, (3rd best shredded beef anywhere), the prices are decent, and the location (near 3 great bars) is stellar.

This place! Shhhhh, don't tell anybody. It's really a hidden gem that is the average size of most people's kitchen at home. The front entrance is actually a screen door which gives it that old school home feeling as you enter the room. Be prepared to wait at times due to they only have 4-5 tables and a few stools at the counter. The service is always right on. The food is really authentic and every item on the menu is a mouth full of happiness. It's the perfect menu with a nice variety for the meat lovers and especially the vegans. You can taste the freshness in every bite. Here's a few recommendations that are some of my favs. Starting with the mountain top size carne asada nachos, the enchiladas, the large wet burritos, and the variety of tasteful tacos. The beans, the cheese, and the sauces are the perfect blend. You must also order their michelada which is second on my all time michelada list. If you do not live in the area, it far worth the drive and I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. It's also attached to the Reno Room which is a bar that has a nice selection of micro brews which you can order with your food from Coco Renos. So get in your car and drive to the LBC.

My husband & I are addicted to the tacos. For $4.50, i get 2 freshly made ground beef tacos that I can only say are devoured on the spot. They remind me of the tacos I ate growing up. The service is quick & friendly. The only downside is we have to leave our jackets on the balcony because we smell like fried tacos, but well worth it!

A friend recommended Coco Reno's as one of the best taco stands in Long Beach, but for some reason I never noticed it was practically next door to my favorite cafe, the Library. Needless to say, I decided to check it out for lunch today! Coco Reno's advertises itself as a taco stand, and that is no joke--there are only a few places to sit. (Carry out adds a .25 cent charge to your order.) Nevertheless, I found a decent place to sit on a Sunday afternoon. Chips and salsa were brought out almost immediately, and the clearly handmade salsa was just the right mix between spicy and piquant. (Loved the pieces of green onion in there.) I ordered two carne asada tacos for the main dish, and while the tortilla was rather fragile and broke apart in my hands, that's because they were both stuffed with generous portions of meat, cheese, lettuce, guacamole, and pico de gallo. The carne asada was subtly marinated so that it allowed the flavors of the other toppings to each take a turn. For my appetite, too, the generous portions were enough to satisfy my lunch cravings. Highly recommended if you want to spend less than $10 and get good quality tacos.

Been here a number of times over the years and would have given them a 3 star previous to my last visit. I regularly have ordered the shrimp salad in the past because it was tasty and pretty healthy compared to other fried dishes. The last time I was there, I ordered it to go and that's when my 3 star rating went to a 1. Would make it a zero if I could!! First of all, I called in my order 10 minutes earlier and expected it to be ready to go when I got there. When I arrived, I found out that the girl hadn't even put my order in. They immediatley started preparing my meal so I went ahead and paid for the order so I could get out quicker. Because of this mishap, I was able to stand there while waiting for my food and watch the entire process as they made my salad. Something I had never done before. Most times I am with someone and we are talking or having a drink so have always been totally distracted from watching the food be prepared. (When you sit down at the counter you are immediately facing the kitchen which is visible to the entire restaurant) In any event, one guy cooked the shrimp and then conveyed to a 2nd guy to finish preparing the salad. The 2nd guy (right next to the cook) went from talking on his cell phone and swiping the sweat off his brow, to immediately preparing my salad. Grabbing each and every ingredient with his bare hands, all the while continuing to wipe the sweat off his brow. Its bad enough to prepare food without gloves, but to continuously wipe the sweat off your forehead is even more disgusting. Needless to say, I will never return. If you decide to patronize this place anyway, despite my warning, watch while they cook your food. Maybe it was an off night or they were so busy that he didn't follow the proper protocol for preparing food. Either way, if it happened once to me, chances are, it has happened before. P.S. Their margaritas on the rocks are TERRIBLE and their salsa is hit and miss. Never consistent. This place is great for late, drunk nights when you are next door at Reno Room and there is nothing else to eat and you don't care if someone dripped sweat in your food cause you didn't personally witness it anyway!

I am eating vegan so I am always on the look out for new places to try, and they offer vegan made rice and beans, and mushroom tacos, which I had. The chips were great and fresh, the drinks good, the service was great. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, so I suppose the crowds might be too much on certain nights, because the place is small.

Go there a lot. Parking is a challange. Small place. Simple menu. Free chips and salsa. I always order carne asada tacos or the gishtacos. They have a mushroom taco. You can watch them make your food from countet seating. Connected to there bar. The bar is a bit if a dive but has a pool table which in this aera of long beach is hard to find.

Love Coco Renos and Reno Room, they're a regular spot for us. I recommend trying the blackened mushroom tacos, they're unique and delicious. Taco Tuesdays are great here too, $1.50 street tacos & $3 margaritas!

Been here several times with a couple of my gfs who live down the street. Fairly inexpensive tacos and burritos, but every time I've eaten here, I'm always left dissatisfied. However, their salsa is delicious and spicy. Their chicken is hit or miss when it comes to being dry or moist, but been consistently bland. I pretty much douse the taco and burritos with salsa and it kind of makes it better. The carne asada was tender, but again, lacking the flavor I typically expect. I'll give them credit for their mushroom burritos, tasty and a great vegetarian option. Never had an issue with the service. I'd never go out of my way to dine here, but I'm not opposed to eating here when I'm in the area and I'm with my gfs.

this place use to have good food. Last couple times I was in there recently the chips were stale, food was bland, the rice was mushy like paste and the beans weren't that good. My friends meal was no better. The only reason I did three stars instead of one was all the past times ive had good food. I will try this place one more time. Thats it though, Long Beach has too many good places for food to roll the dice when you eat.

My first Mexican food in Long Beach...excellent. I ordered shrimp tacos and whatever it was about them that made them so perfect, I'm not sure, but I was obsessed. This place is casual and connected to a bar/pool hall in the back...not sure because I didn't walk back there but it def sounded obnoxious...in a good, Long Beach way. The kitchen/grill is open and there is seating along the bar as well as about 5 or 6 high top tables. The chips and salsa were whatever, and the tacos ALMOST made up for it...chips and salsa are pretty important though so that game needs to be stepped up. I live down the street and will definitely be back after I try the rest of the Mexican food places I have bookmarked...soooo in like 6 months.

Holy crap this place is good. Not from the area and sick of being alone in my hotel so I went on an adventure and found this place. Had a carna asada taco, shrimp taco, and Chile Relleno wet. All of it delicious! Im not an easy pleaser for tacos and am a traditionalist (all I like on my tacos is onion, cilantro, and green sauce) and these were packed with flavor! Beware to ask what comes on stuff. Only reason is because they put all the works on things. So if you are like me, just ask. The waitress was good at asking me, not the other way. Super awesome. Also got a chillada which came in a huge glass. Also very good. Total for all. Just over $18 bucks. Uh, yes please! Dont forget the awesome home made chips and salsa that cone with almost immediately after you sit down!

This is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in LBC. It is small, a little greasy, the food though has flavor. The chefs care about their craft. My winning dishes are the Sol Fish Burrito and the Chicken Enchillada combo plate. The chips are amazing (made fresh in house by frying up tortillas the salsa is just to die for. Great spice (sometimes spicer than other times based on the jalepenos) but it just has a real feel. The fajitas are also incredible. Everything is great.

$3 margaritas on Taco Tuesday! Hell yes! I can't remember the exact price of the tacos, but they were really cheap. The carne-asada and chicken are really good, the shrimp taco was a little spicy, but good as well. Coco Reno is connected to the bar Reno Room, which has killer bloody mary's as well. They make their own chips, served with salsa. Service is always friendly and pretty quick unless they are swamped, but you can;t be mad at them about that.

A+++++++++ The only complaint I have is that I didnt get here sooner! Absolutely delish, I had the combo plate with a beef taco and a cheese enchilada. The salsa and chips get an A+++ The two guys working were really cool, and great hosts. I will return probably today!

I love their salsa. I dream about their salsa. I drive home from work and my mouth starts to water in anticipation of their salsa. They have great mushroom tacos. The tacos are simple, comprised of a flour tortilla, sauteed mushrooms and their salsa. I always order them a la carte but you can also order them with rice and beans. The drinks are also good and the staff is friendly.

delicious mushroom tacos! last time asked for a combo of mushroom & tofu burrito and they happily obliged. love this place. only call out, and maybe i'm just a baby- but the salsa is a tad too spicy for me! i love sitting at the bar watching them make everything, including the fresh tortilla chips!

So I was in Long Beach to help my friend celebrate his birthday by playing games at the coffee shop next door (The Library). Anyways, I had some time to kill before we started playing and I didn't have dinner yet. This wasn't a dinner celebration so I had to eat before we started. I walked into Coco Renos and it's a bit beach-themed, which is nice. The grill is right behind the bar so expect to smell a bit if you dine in. I walked in and asked the waitress for a recommendation. She suggested the blackened mushroom tacos. I made it a combo since I was hungry. Boy was that a mistake. $2.50 extra for some beans and rice. And the rice was clumpy and old. Yuck. The tacos themselves didn't have a lot of flavor. I don't think they were seasoned at all. I had to douse my tacos in salsa for some oomph. I paid a total of $10 for blah tacos. I'm a little furious just typing this review out. This must be a food place for bar patrons as it's next to a bar I think and there's a billiards table in the back. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Although I will say this is the one of the few places that I've seen vegetarian/vegan Mexican food. Still, there are better veggie options, IMO. Maybe I've been spoiled by great taco places in east LA but this place charges exorbitant taco prices for not-so-good tacos. Walk a little further down the street and try something else.

I love this place. The rice and beans alone are like tasting angel cum. The tofu tacos are like getting a facial of deliciousness. the chips and salsa are like tasting spicy man nectar. Coco renos literally stands over hole mole and takes a dump on it's face.

This little gem is up and down for me, but lately it's up. I was here last night with a friend and we were like, these beans taste a little off, two minutes later we hear the waitress tell somebody the beans have no lard. Ah! No wonder. I usually get burritos here. I love their salsa for some reason. I come here just to buy pints of the stuff instead of that Pace stuff at the grocery store. There is very little seating in the place but your welcome to eat in the bar next door (Reno Room). They share a common door. Prices are alright, used to be cheaper, but whateva's. Chips & salsa, chips & salsa, chips & salsa, chips & salsa, chips & salsa!

After living here for almost 9 years, I finally decided to try Coco Reno's/Reno Room Taco Tuesday. I had seen the advertisement on the side of the Reno Room for $1.50 tacos on Tuesday. I ordered beef, chicken, and shrimp as I wanted to taste/rate them all. I was less than impressed. The tacos themselves are ok, but the dining area is a small separate room off the side of the bar, and due to the grill and the room's small size, it's extremely hot. They had the door open, but that wasn't adequate ventilation and there didn't seem to be any air conditioning. I would have rated it 3 stars, but I rate it two based on the service, or lack thereof. When I walked in, no one greeted me or said hi. There were several waitresses for the small place, so I don't think they were understaffed. I couldn't even find where the tacos were being served and finally stumbled upon the back room, where I assumed that's where the food was, based on the grill. I had to ask the cook if one of waitresses was supposed to take my order or if I could order from the grill. I had ordered a beer with the tacos, and no one brought me the beer. I had to ask a second waiter for the beer. When the beer came, it was flat and I had to summon yet another waitress to inform them. Only then did they inform me that they had been having problems with that particular tap and only after bringing me another type of beer did she then check up on me subsequently. It truly is a dive bar and taco stand.

So disappointing, especially since I've been so happy with this place in the past. Tonight I ordered chicken nachos with refried beans to go, I get home and discover they are plain nachos with black beans. No big deal. I called Coco Renos to let them know about the mistake. The girl was very nice on the phone. I walk back and they had my replacement order waiting. Awesome! Then I get home and they are SOGGY nachos with chicken thrown on top. A dollop of sour cream and guac. Are you upset with me that you messed up my order and I came back to get the order that I paid for??! I have a feeling these are someone else's messed up nachos. And now I'm too pissed to go back a third time for fear that they will spit in my food, if they didn't already. Coco Renos has lost my business. I will be posting a picture.

Had a nachos appetizer, yum! Loaded up with cheese and beef and very filling, enough for two people. Definitely will be coming back to try the rest of the items on the menu (chimichanga I'm looking at you). Only thing I didn't like was that the during a shift change the bartender and waitress both closed us out without asking if we wanted anything else or giving an explanation as to what was going on.

As a Vegan it's difficult to find places that I can enjoy as much as my carnivore friends but this place provides us both a delicious opportunity. The prices are reasonable. The salsa is perfection (it's like a mini riot in my mouth that makes my nose run and of course there is the inevitable butt burn the following day but it's totally worth it) and while it is lacking in space and stylish decor you can bet your sweet soon to be burning ass you'll forget all about those preconceived notions the moment that food lands in your mouth. Don't forget to watch the fabulous commercial. youtu.be/OizVcq3wqTQ

Coco Renos is a little hole-in-the-wall-joint serving up some of the freshest Mexican food I've ever gotten my chubby little fingers on! While good ole CR is sure to please everyone, I LOVE that they are veg friendly. Not only do they have plenty of non-meat options, but what they do prepare is done really well. Tofu, mushrooms, sizzling veggies-- all fantastic! In burrito or taco form, I just can't get enough. The best part is, when I tell the server no cheese and no sour cream, they don't get a weird look on their face like I just talked smack about their mama. My only complaint about Coco Renos is that it is TINY. I'm amazed that they were able to fit about 4 tables plus bar stools in there. So, get yo grub on, but don't eat too much because there's not much wiggle room. ;) If you don't mind a bar atmosphere, you can actually enjoy your meal in the Reno room, which is adjacent to Coco Renos. Heck you could make a whole night out of it, eat some delicious food and then throw back some drinks. Watch out though, the bartenders here have a heavy pour. Tip: The salsa at Coco Renos is super spicy, so if you've got a mild palate, you may want to hold off on shoving the chips and salsa in your snout until there's water at the table. DELICIOUS BURN!!!!!

Love this place! Service is usually top notch with the drink refills and checking on our table. The staff are always super friendly! As far as mexican food for vegetarians/vegan in long beach, this is high on my list. The restaurant also connects with a bar next door if you are looking to watch a game or fight. Highly recommended!

I loved this place! On a recent trip to preform a show with my band in SoCal I stayed at my guitarists house right around the corner from here. He took us after we all got back from the airport and we enjoyed the food so much we came back three times within the course of a week. The vegetarian options are sweet! The cerveza is cold and cheap!

A group of us came here for dinner on Friday night. It was our first visit and I picked it based on the ratings here. We first sat down at a table in the Coco Renos side, but then realized we were going to have more people in our party than we thought. We found bigger booths on the Reno Room side so we opted for that side. Once everyone in our party arrived (7 of us) we managed to squeeze into a booth. Our waitress was friendly although being a big party, some of us were undecisive and we ended up taking forever to order. One of our party members was a bit needy and I give the waitress props for keeping her cool. The food was awesome and the prices were great. I would recommend going if you have 4 people or less though. I was sweating it out while eating. I agree that the salsa is amazing. It was definately spicy. I would hit this place up again.

Still love going here. I'm pretty much a regular here now. The salsa here is probably my favorite salsa I've ever had. I'm not much for tomatos but I do like salsa with chips. I'm now to the point where I pour salsa over all my food. They put green onions in it which give it a unique taste and there are some other seasonings/spices in there that just leave me wanting more. Some people think it is spicy but to me it is the perfect level of heat. I guess that is in the tongue of the beholder though. The last item I tried was the Chicken Burrito and I think I'll be getting that instead of tacos for now on. It is very filling and equally as delicious. The Cancun Salad also looks very tasty. I believe it is basically a shrimp salad with some assorted veggies and mango slices on it with a citrus dressing. I haven't had it yet but saw someone order it and it looked pretty good. I see people complaining about the prices of the tacos on here but the quality is worth it and they are bigger than regular street tacos. $4.50 ($2.25 each) for two chicken tacos that will fill you up is a good value in my book. I go to La Taqueria on 4th and you'd have to order 4 of their tacos to get the same amount of food. And you don't get table service and the option to order beer there. All in all, this place is a tasty and a pretty decent value.

Coco Renos has so much potential, but misses the mark in my opinion. It has a "taco stand" theme and located next to a bar so you get a full drink menu. You can't really go wrong with that. And to their credit, the food that they serve isn't bad. Their tacos come loaded with lettuce, cheese and a lot of other unnecessary items. To me a good "street taco" is a double wrapped corn tortilla, carne asada, onion, cilantro and salsa with a good kick. To get that here, you need to special order it. The tacos were of average size and the meat had a nice flavor to it. Unfortunately, two tacos comes out to a whopping $6.95. That's $3.50 a taco, which is a bit pricey if you ask me. I think that if they served real "taco stand" food at real "taco stand" prices, I think this place could do much better.

Best mexican food in the area. The atmosphere is a little crowded and it is connected to a bar, but don't let that scare you away from the food!! Order the shrimp quesadilla with green salsa, you won't be disappointed!

I have eaten here many times, mostly due to laziness. I ordered a chicken salad the last time (mind you I had just run 8 miles) and much like Merceds up the street, all the food is cooked on a giant griddle which they drench in oil. Hasn't anyone in Long Beach heard of a flame grill? When food is still nasty after having ran for an hour at the gym that's a sign, don't ya think? Another not-so-special Mexican joint in LBC. *holds gun to head*

You've just been to an awesome party, you were just at a ritzy after party, top that off with you've had one too many drinks and now you've got the munchies and it's getting really, really late so what's open in Long Beach and where can you party next? Coco Renos of course! We showed up around 12:30 or 1AM. Can't really remember now but they were closing up the restaurant. We were pouting at the door and begging for some chips and salsa and the lady was nice enough to let us in. She was also nice enough to get a round of Dos Equis and a water for me, the designated driver. This place is pretty small but it's authentic Mexican and the chips and spicy salsa hit the spot. I was out with Mary M, her BF Hamid, and Brad D - they all got tacos while I eyed the mushroom quesadillas. This place is cheap eats but boy do you get huge portions. The menu is around $4-5 bucks and the chips and salsa were $1.95. We ate like kings and queens and they were gracious enough to let us hang out for a while until we eventually got kicked out into the bar that is adjacent to this restaurant and has a separate back entrance. This spot saved our night. The tacos were huge and filling and the meat was perfectly seasoned. They cooked up everything fresh on the grill so the aroma overwhelmed us and took over the restaurant. I got a cheesy greasy quesadilla that was pretty good and filling and came with a side of sour cream and guacamole which was ok, but not great.

Get what you pay for. Cheap drinks, Cheap food. Total hole in the wall. This place is basically only for when you're starving and it's late. Poor quality food. Very American tasting Mexican food. Nothing authentic about this place

The food is good. However, this is Cali and I expect Mexican food to be more than just "good". The salsa was watered down but my shrimp burrito made up for it. It was tasty! The waiter isn't that friendly and don't go when they are busy b/c you will wait awhile. All in all I will go back ( I live 2 minutes away) but more out of convenience.

I used to live on the same block as this place, and have always enjoyed the food in the past, so had no problem when my boyfriend suggested picking up lunch there for us. Unfortunately, today's order is enough to make me stay away for good. The Cancun Salad- seriously guys, the most expensive thing on your menu is a salad made with old shredded lettuce, old avocado, and unripe mango? It's completely inedible aside from the shrimp that I am currently trying to salvage into another dish. If you're not going to put effort into a salad, don't put it on the menu. Seriously, I feel so ripped off. I would give you one star, but I guess I'm being generous for the past good meals I've enjoyed, none of which had the word salad in the title.

Not so bueno. Stopped in for dinner and sat at the bar. This place is tiny--5 tables and six seats at the bar. They make everything in the tiny open kitchen, but that also makes it warm and stinks up your clothes. I waited a really long time for my fish tacos since they apparently do a big takeout business. I ordered two fish tacos and will require a second dinner tonight since there wasn't much of any fish on it. Disappointed. The salsa has a big kick. Black beans not served hot. The burritos were big and are probably the best value here. I sat so long I saw a whole lot of those made. The chips need salt. I'm the only person sitting at the bar and can't get my water refilled. I can't recommend this place. I love little places like this but the basics have to be covered!

Coco Reno's is great! Best chile rellenos in town and as a standard measure I have all the Mexican food places take the relleno test. Also, the complimentary chips and salsa is crucial as well to any respectable Mexican food joint. Although I've been told by one waitress that works there that this isn't real Mexican food because they use jicama in some dishes and they never use lard in any preparation. So I don't know what you call it officially but I call it damn good yummy and healthy Mexican eats! The whole set up of Coco Reno's is perfect as well. It's like an old taco stand and you can watch all the cooks make your food right there. The cooks are excellent and fast and friendly and hustle to get your order done. I've never been disappointed with the service. It is also connected to the Reno Room which is nice for convenience

If anyone reads my reviews, they can tell that I have mentioned many times how I am a frequent visitor of taquerias and Chinese Food joints. Raised on both I tend to be very picky on the food I eat from those groups. I was in Long Beach last week for work and was stuck you foot transportation and not a lot of time to wander for lunch. I came across Coco Renos and walked in. The dining area was very small but also gave off the feeling of being in someones personal kitchen. The waitress was a little hottie pop that sat me down and made me take notice right away!. I looked at the menu and it was relatively small with a few of the usual suspects to order. I also noticed that the price was cheap. I ordered two crunchy tacos with beans and rice. The hot lil waitress brought my chips and salsa and also my drink. Chips were fresh and salsa was tasty, this alone put this place head and shoulders above many failed places I have ate at. Next came my meal. WOW! Lots of food and looked good....ok hold on I told myself, dont get too excited. Many of times I have fell in love with the food at first site only to be sick at first bite. Not the case here. The tacos were good and beans and rice were awesome. Its easy to walk into a taqueria and get served funky beans or dry rice, but both were right on the money. Might lose a star because the place is so small. Reminded me of one of those taco stand in baja california, so that makes it hard to come with a party of more then 6. Other then that, my only disappointment is that it is down South and not close to my home in the Bay.

Pretty good place.....especially if you're a vegetarian. The mushroom tacos were really good. Place is really small. Service was great. While I've had better Mexican food, this is pretty good if you're looking for a quick vegetarian/vegan mexican meal. I'll probably come back here again if I'm in the area.

Just a small Mexi stand with decent food and a chill atmosphere with a connecting door to the bar next door, the Reno Room. Good for a quick cure to a mexican food / margarita craving. Walk here and grab a table, if you're lucky to see an open one, or post up at the counter and watch the cooks take care of business. An enchilada plate and a few margarita's definitely do the trick!

As a vegetarian, I love this place. They can cook some mean tofu tacos and their chips are wonderful. The only downside are the uncomfortable stools you have to sit on, where the people near your table are basically on your back. The waitresses can be semi-moody, they could be a bit friendlier in my opinion. The food is great and cheap and vegetarian/vegan friendly!

This place is no bueno for kids or groups larger than 3. It is teeny tiny and connected to the Reno Room bar. If you have a big group (and all are over 21) you can enter through Reno and find a comfy booth complete with tables or the counter tables with stools along the pool tables (if available). Servers will take your order and bring your food from Coco Renos to your bar tables if you let them know where you are sitting. Otherwise it is best to just grab one of the 10 seats inside the taco stand sized restaurant or order to go. The complimentary chips and salsa are yummy. The chips are hot and fresh and the salsa is pretty tasty. Goes great with an ice cold beer or margarita! My favorite thing to order here is the carne asada plate with blackbeans and rice. Their asada is so juicy! The rice is soft and fluffy and melts in your mouth. The beans are fresh and taste homemade. The chicken tacos and the fish tacos are really loaded and good too. They don't skimp on any plates. Try the guacamole. It's great bar food if you can deal with the Reno room crowd. Prices are $$$ for mexican food. Service can be really slow if the bar is packed ie avoid weekend nights. There is a parking lot in back.

Let me start by saying that they have great chips and salsa! From there, I really like their blackened tacos (I get them with Tofu---and I've NEVER liked tofu before), the corn relish that comes with the tacos is outstanding. Their nachos are another favorite as well. And next door at the Reno Room, they offer a great happy hour! You can sit and eat Coco Reno's in the Reno Room while enjoying the happy hour and some tunes or TV!

This place is a nice little hole in the wall... The food is pretty good the veggie burrito and the blackened mushroom tacos are both really good. The chips, salsa and guac are nice too. It just a little place, so I'd only recommend going in groups of two. Any more than that and it gets a bit uncomfortable. If it's full, you can eat in the Reno Room, which is the bar attached to it but that sucks because there are a million flatscreens playing at once and they're all really loud. But Coco Reno's is pretty good!

My default local place for tacos. Some decent beers are available here. Intimate environment, friendly cooks and staff!

Great food, great service! The only downside is your clothes will reek from eating there.

I'd give this place a 4 or 5 when the tall mexican dude with the crossed eyes works there. The shorter jackass that is normally there constantly checking his cell phone and treating the servers like crap can't cook for shi* and he just plan ruins the vibe. He needs to be fired. Great concept, small place, I love it there. This place has so much potential when the right cook is there!!

Friday afternoon my buddy and I went to the Reno Room for a drink, some lunch and a game of pool. Until now, I thought it was all just a part of the Reno Room but I guess Coco Renos is a separate business (same owner?) Anyway, as the waitress said... the food was 'the Bomb . com'. I had Chicken Flautas and Chips and Salsa with some guacamole on the side and was very impressed for bar food. What made the food even better was that the waitress was very friendly, there when you needed her, and not when you didn't and the cook even passed by asking how things were. All of this great food and service from a little bar. You go Coco Renos! Ok, Bar & Bartender were a 5 star too... SIDE NOTE: When I got back I checked out "bomb . com, thebomb . com, bom . com etc..." All already taken websites and nothing related to reviews of great things. I guess that's why we have YELP! :-)

As I sat here having a nice convo with Kimberly J. and Andrya H. last night I couldn't help but think "have I Yelped about Coco Renos yet?" Nope. I haven't. And that's a damn shame. This place is SMALL, so I take away 1 star for that. The food, on the other hand, is the bomb-bizzle so they get 4 stars. Mushroom, carne asada & fish tacos are all delectable...as are the enchiladas and chips & salsa. Their cadillac margaritas will 'F' your 'S' up--but I suppose that's more a review of The Reno Room. **Vegetarians beware: they use the same utensils to cook their meat & veggies. See Daniel M.'s review.**

I love this place cuz it's close, and they have tofu tacos. The food is above average, and priced nicely. The restaurant is small, and can be quite hot on a warm day, but that's probably the only drawback. It's also connected to Reno Room, which is convenient if you wanna go to a bar, but also get something other than fries.

I can already feel the heartburn. I really have mixed feelings about this place. The food is really tasty but I always pay for it later. There has been two times I went there when I actually broke into cold sweats in my sleep. Yet, I continued to eat there. However since my last meal and that brick in my gut feeling 3 days after the fact I think I may stick with the chips and dip or maybe something vegetarian. I do like the fact that i can walk there from my house and the drinks are priced well. The Guac is realllllly good too! The restaurant is SUPER tiny I am talking four tables and a counter but you can find a booth in the adjoined bar Reno Room and order. More like a Taco hut really.

hello we are jacinto & jessica uknow the cook's are great & the help is great and the food is great! but the bouncer on the bar side is very raciest he is the big chubby bald guy with attitude named atticous! he doesent like mexicans but can have them work for him and serve him!! not cool at all!

My husband and I have gone there a few times with our kids. I like the crispy chicken tacos and my husband gets the burritos, all of which we have enjoyed enough to come back. The chips and salsa are pretty tasty. We've always had good service too.

Thank you Coco Renos, you're the one I blame for getting me hooked on those yummy tofu tacos!! Big strips of grilled tofu sprinkled with pepper that seriously melts in your mouth. Yum! The chips are fresh, and the salsa has a nice kick to it! The place is super tiny, but cozy. The servers are nice and laid back. And better yet, go next door to Reno Room, order a few drinks, talk to the nice bartenders, and Coco Renos will hook you up with food and chips in there! Sweet! Two great places in one!

  • Christine R.

Que rico! Delicoius mushroom tacos (thank you Yelpers) and grilled mahi mahi tacos. And v. good fresh chips and really tasty salsa--I didn't even crave guac, the salsa was flavorful with just enough zip. Teeny tiny so I imagine you have to get the timing just right. My friend and I did and we were totally thrilled to find a new Mexican place. Good service, food made quickly and to order. There's a bar to eat at so it's also a good place for those solo nights out on the town. And cheap cheap! Our two meals and a beer were $17. Me gusta!!

  • Grayson F.

Every time I go to Coco Renos I order two tofu tacos (w/ no dairy) and am sure it will be enough food. And it should be, but every time as I get drunker and drunker I hear myself yelling "Two more of these awesome tacos!" over and over and over. Both the tofu and blackened mushroom tacos are great, and the burrito with tofu is delicious. I was a little skeptical of tofu in mexican food at first, but they pull it off magnificently. And our usual waitress knows what vegan means, which is definitely a plus. $5 for two fatty tacos is not bad, and almost makes you forget the cost of alcohol. 4 stars for the tofu-tequila dance in my belly.

Pretty good little Mexican spot attached to Reno Room. It is extremely small and leaves little room during rushes, however they do offer a decent vegetarian selection. I wasn't particularly impressed with the food, but it is attached to a bar after all. I used to like this place a lot better when they still had Dad's root beer and RC Cola on the fountain. Prices are reasonable and they give free chips and salsa. Not worth going out of your way, but you should check it out if you live in the area.

Simply put I went here on behest of all you yelpers and I'd have to say that you are all right on the money.... I've never had such good food listening to a website... I'd have to say that I did have the tofu and the mushroom and the nachos but my favorites would have to be the tofu.... aside from the fact that im asian.... truth be told i hate tofu but id eat that taco any day of the week. the mushroom was extremely flavorful but a bit salty in nature for me and the nachos were good but i've had better... sorry Tina D. That restaurant is small... really small... so small they dont have a industrial dishwasher.... just some kid washing things by hand... poor kid. I say head there after 9 because any time before that good luck finding a seat.... try all the food but give the mush and the tofu a chance because you'll be surprised as I was.... I also somehow seem to know the red headed waitress there... I swear I can't pin point it but i think i know her from like high school or a previous shitty part time job or something... i was too drunk to ask her but damn she was cool... but she was all legs...

mmmm how i love CocoRenos! Everyone has already mentioned the mushroom tacos and tofu tacos so i don't need to go over how great those are! But their quesadilla is amazing, too! And their nachos! And i LOVE that it's connected to the Reno Room and they'll bring you your food while you're sitting at a booth in the bar and totally take care of you. Everyone is friendly here and their food is fresh, tasty and cheap! My favorite place for mexican food in long beach fer sure! And i also really love the Reno Room, you just really can't go wrong with Coco Renos. Check out Chissum Worthington's song about the place on myspace.com/chissumworth… . It's totally fun fun funny :)

Totally a hole in the wall. Ever since I moved to the area I have been driving past this place. Meaning to stop and never did. So one day in search of a really good margarita i stopped in for a drink and some dinner! I could'nt have been more satisfied! It was great! Best damn margarita i have had in years! The fish tacos are great! I go here every chance I get!

This place is a hole in the wall to a T. The food is good. Salsa is great. Right next to a bar so you can eat and then walk into the bar. Overall, a good spot to it and should hit up if on the area.

Mmmmmmm... zesty ground beef tacos. I love them! :) I live just across the street and to the left of Coco Renos, which is perfect for those nights when you've had a lot to drink and nothing but some good greasy Mexican food will do. It's not the only time where the food is good, you can stop by at anytime and enjoy it. It is extremely small. One of the places eateries that I have ever been to. Every time that I have gone, all the tables have been taken, so I usually just stand at the counter and get it to go, but if I'm lucky, I get the table at the window. It's a little dark in there. Since they are connected to Reno Room, you get a lot of bar noise, but it's not bothersome in any way. Most who go here, will likely spend some time at Reno Room now and again. As for the food. It's good. Really good. I've had various tacos and burritos here. Chips and Salsa are also good, but it's the zesty ground beef tacos that I keep going back for more. Not many places make tacos like these or at least any of the places that I have been to. Although the last two times I have ordered out, they just gave me plain old ground beef tacos, which are not the same. If you've had, then you know this. So when I go again, I might have to either eat there or closely check my stuff before I go. Mmmm... I might just have to get something from them this weekend.

So many wonderful places to eat in Long Beach, so little time....However, if Im welcoming a new eater to the LBC, and they happen to be of the vegetarian nature, this is the first place I would take them. The prices are decent, and there are lots of tofu and veggie options on the menu....I've never had an awful dining experience here, although Im still trying to order everything off the menu before I make any confirmed statements.....There have been some hit or miss adventures however.... For example, the first time I came here, I ordered the mahi burrito.....It was fantastic....The second time however, I for some reason wasnt feeling like forking out the extra 1.85, and got the regular fish burrito....Not so fantastic... Besides that, the nacho's are huge, the black beans are amazing, and it's attached to the reno room, where at anytime, you can black out and spend $70 on a round of shots for 10 of your friends, after you've just been fired! (oooops!)

love this place! Love the carne asada nachos and mushroom tacos (No, I'm not vegetarian, the tacos are just delicious). Have cravings for their salsa. Only giving them 4 stars though because the mushroom tacos were disappointingly greasy last time . . . And, a note to those vegetarians out there - they cook the mushrooms on the same grill that they cook the meats . . . (that;s why they taste so bomb) Yum yum yum!!

The advantage that Coco Reno's has is that it stays open late. The disadvantage is that it gives you Montezuma's revenge. Sadly to say we will not be returning to one of our favorite hole in the walls.

Tiny little hole in the wall with a hidden back room called the Reno Room. It's like a dive bar with stools and high tables but come with friends and it's a party. In your mouth. It's not the best Mexican food I've ever had but it's filling, it's tasty and the surroundings as well as the clientele are amusing.

An authentic mexican food restaurant with tofu and mushroom tacos? Yup, and they are good! However, they cook the tofu & mushrooms on the same surface as the carne asada. They even use the same utensils to move 'em around. That's not so nice and the fact that they do all of that in front of your face is especially disconcerting if you are vegetarian or vegan. I guess at least they show you out in the open, but still.... The quality of the food is good. Very good even. They also make their own chips which are a lot better than anything offered more or less anywhere else. It's real small and if it's busy it can take a while to get your food. The waitresses I've had there have been kind of rude which hasn't been too pleasant. Because of my few complaints I haven't been here lately. I wish I could offer a higher score for 'em, but right now i can't!

stopped by one late Wednesday evening after a protest and a bike ride. my friend had the fish tacos which he seemed ecstatic about. i had the tofu tacos which were very good but the tortillas fell apart as soon as i picked them up... so it was more like a platter than a taco, hehe. also ordered the tofu fajitas to go. i should have checked before i left, unfortunately i didn't. they gave me the option of corn or four tortillas, and i got none. it's not really fajitas without the tortillas, is it? i would go back again. only downsides, we felt a little rushed by our server, the whole time we were there. and the place is VERY small, and only has 4 tables. the guy sitting at the table behind me kept elbowing me, and the ass never once apologized. grrr! :\

Had Coco Renos for the first time today. It was definitely good. Tried the blackened mushroom (delicious) taco and the baja fish taco (I've had better, but still good). Salsa was spicy and tasty. Nice ambiance...actual Ranchera music playing in the background, small and hidden. Good selection of beer. Def be coming back.

Another vote for the mushroom tacos from a carnivore! Good is just good! Great chips and refried beans. I always skip the rice so I'm no help there. Oh, and they serve RC! Yea! That's what I'm talking about! I don't even drink sodas anymore except when I am at Cocorenos. Then my good sense is no match to the old memories of RC. Last time I was in there, I saw somebody eating a salad with some shrimp and mango or something. Gotta try that.

I can't say it's the best Mexican I've ever had but it's really good as the others have stated. It's a great little hole in the wall with good drinks- I always seem to stumble out of there after several margaritas! I love the mahi mahi burrito but everything else I have had is good. And unlike the other review, I've had no probs with the waitresses!

  • Khuyen P.

i've heard so much hype about it without knowing what it was called... and besides, it's that place that makes my tummy rumble when i convince myself that liquid dinner is better than real food when i smell the tacos cooking. i thought it was alright. sort of fancy menu items but not pretentious at all. i tried the mahi mahi tacos and those were just not the best. however, i am more than willing to come back and give this place a try. i've heard the albondiga soup was to die for.

Can't go wrong here, in my opinion. I am conflicted every time I go, because their carne asada is so good, yet so is their tofu. I'm no vegetarian, but I do really like the tofu here. If you are a vegetarian, you they have delicious mushroom tacos in addition to the tofu, and several different types of veggie burritos and salads (however, note the preparation issues in daniel m's review). If you like meat, they have all the usual kinds; I've mentioned the carne asada, and they also have several types of fish and shrimp. I love the grilled shrimp here. We normally sit at the counter and watch them make our food. Lots of memories and stories here (most notably one involving Anton E and mango margaritas), but mainly it's just a great place to eat for great food and great prices. Plus it's open fairly late for sleepy Long Beach - 11pm on weeknights and 1am on weekends.

There will be no helpful story or anecdote here. If Long Beach is the perfect place to live (and for all intents and purposes, I'm asserting that it IS), and a 75-degree-puffy-clouds-blue-sky saturday is the perfect day, then Coco Reno's is the perfect place to eat. This place puts hole-in-the-wall to shame. There's literally four tables crammed in there and one of them is a pool table (but that dimly-lit red felt wonderland is so perfect for a saturday afternoon, no?). I opted to sit at the counter where you can see them forming, cutting, and frying the tortilla chips before they hit your plate with that spicy-spicy salsa. The margaritas? Great. Tart. Boozy. Fantastic. The carne asada tacos? Fresh. Crunchy. Spicy. The burritos? As big as your head, I'm not kidding. There is no better place this side of the border.

One of my all-time fav taco joints. You MUST order & consume the mushroom tacos. Absolutely amazing. Even the beer tastes better because of them. I can't even think of driving home now -- thanks Coco Reno. My evening will probably not be complete without a traffic-filled 2 hour drive to satisfy my needs. that's not right. freeking jerks. thanks. stop making great food dammit.

Quaint and vegan friendly mexican food place on Broadway and Redondo in Long Beach. Cocorenos is just off of the Reno Room bar, so after you enjoy their blackened mushroom tacos or tofu burrito you can grab a drink! I was really excited to find a good selection of both vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. And the food? Not only filling but incredibly tasty!

  • Tyler W.

My favorite black beans in the greater Long Beach area, and some really good veggie spins on Mexican food, even though I'm pretty sure they are not 100% meat/grease free. Can't beat it for brunch, I have yet to try it later at night, but I imagine it would pair well with a night of drinking as well.

Great "hole in the wall" Mexican food. Who would ever eat at Taco Bell when there is a place like this around... They have several great vegetarian options of both burritos and tacos.

I was desperate for Mexican food and for some reason I ended up going here. It's weird that they charge you if you take it to go, but I pretty much had to cause this place is a hole-in-the-wall. Food was not good at all and the Salsa is no bueno.

I have been eating at CoCo Renos since it opened many many years ago. I always had good things to say about it including that is served the best Shrimp Tacos in the city. I cannot say that anymore. In the last 2 years the food quality has gone to crap. Today, cinco de mayo, I went in to see if maybe it might be better. To my surprise it has gotten worse, the surprise was I didn't think it could get worse. Shrimp was overcooked, beans and rice were cold, the special tamales for cinco de mayo were also cold and had to send them back. I am bummed, I so loved that place. NO MORE

Coco Renos is a small place, but more in a cozy way and not a cramped way. There are vegetarian tacos, burritos, and fajitas (I think). Tacos with tofu! Yes. This is really good Mexican food. Chips & salsa are good and the margaritas are fab.

this place is a vegetarian's mexican dream. they serve a wide range of entrees with tofu, mushrooms, cheese and veggies - tacos, burritos, enchiladas, to name a few. not to mention the rice is make without chicken stock and the refried beans without lard but still taste very very good. they make their own salsa and deep fry their own tortilla for chips. only reason why they lost a star from me is 1.) parking - you can find yourself driving round and round belmont heights and never find anything 2.) limited amount of space inside the restaurant - it's connected to the reno room bar and there aren't too many tables to sit at. it's okay sitting by yourself at the counter but there usually isn't too much space at peak eating times. *my bf is not vegetarian and he still likes their meat dishes. *my favorite - tofu and mushroom wet burrito plate with rice and refried beans. yummy, i just decided that i'm going there for lunch today. 1:34pm? just in time!

This is one of those places that you get a craving for from time to time. It is small. You will smell when you leave so make sure you don't have to be somewhere important when you leave. They make a great Patron margaritas. Good chips and salsa...especially with a little sour cream. I love the hard shell tacos and the enchilladas are good too. Never had bad service.

Okay taste is a relative thing but I simply cannot go along with the positive reveiws of this place. I have eaten there just once ( recently )and it was so disappointing that they will not get a second chance. The place is small as stated, and dirty, (the LA Food Inspector even says so on the outside wall sticker. ) My wife could not eat her taco because she felt the meat was spoiled. She ate only the lettuce on top and the shell setting aside the meat. Figured a night of sickeness was not worth it. I ate the Chili Relleno burrito since I had never seem one before and thought how cool but it was far below average for even the generally boring bean burrito I usually get elsewhere. One usually knows that things are going to go well or poorly after tasting the salsa ,and the salsa here seemed to us to be "off the shelf store bought "with a few added green onions to fool you. After we tried it , we both said to each other maybe we should leave but being the fool I am I decided to tough it out and see if the food might break the salsa rule. Wrong....the salsa rule remains intact. Long Beach has some really great Mexican places but they are generally where the Mexicans go. This place is not on the list. If you want to experiment with your 20 dollars go elsewhere....over-priced and poor taste value to be found here.

Tacos and beer. Burritos and beer. Nachos and beer. Chips/salsa and beer. Basically a grubbery when you are getting tanked at the Reno Room next door. Good on its own merit, however.

Go and try the mushroom tacos with corn salsa already! You won't be disappointed, I promise. Unless you hate mushrooms, in this case you should go and try the tofu tacos! I'm telling you they are delicious. The salsa is wonderful and they make some really good margaritas too (this is coming from a girl who doesn't even really like margaritas). The waitresses work their butt off and it's the kind of place that feels comfortable. Like most places in long beach, there aren't many parking spots, so ride a bike.

I love this place. Their food is really good, not the best in the world, but pretty high up there. What really sets them apart is the salsa--its the best, spiciest salsa I've ever had at a restaurant. That salsa drives me here and to the reno room. Also, the waitresses are always very friendly and very helpful, and they never let the drunks get to them, always quick with refills, more salsa, and anything else. Also, drinks in the adjoining Reno Room are ridiculously cheap, especially friday's "Super Happy Hour."

We're new to the area and we were craving Mexican. We rode our bikes over to a new place that we saw on 4th, but it was closed on Tuesdays. We were so bummed, but I saw a pedestrian walking by and thought "what the hell" and asked her if she knew of good Mexican food that was close. She sent us to Cocoreno (she told us it was related to the Reno Room, but that meant nothing). We rode over and discovered a little hidden treasure. You can enter right off the street on Broadway or from the Reno Room. It is a teeny tiny little restaurant, but the food is big. I could not believe that we were able to sit upon entering at 7:00 (on a Tuesday) as the place has about 5 tables that will sit 4 max and a counter that might seat another 6. Not knowing that it was attached to the Reno Room with a full bar, I feared (upon entering) that the Margaritas were going to be that fake rice vodka shit that tries to pass. Unfortunately, the marg wasn't great anyway (served in a tumbler??) even with real tequila. The food, however, more than made up for it. Big portions that my 230+, 6'4" frame couldn't finish! Service was excellent. As we rode our bikes, I was thirsty and didn't even finish swallowing my last gulp of water before the glass was refilled (several times) by the support and the waitress who could not have been nicer. DON'T TELL EVERYONE! I'm afraid this place will get discovered-----:-)

A family owned restaurant that has a lot of soul, wonderful staff and amazing food. Their menu accommodates both vegetarians and meat eaters. They are very flexible in the way they make your order. A friend of mine had a special request and the only thing I heard from the person taking our order was "you let us know how you want it" followed with a down to earth smile. I knew from that moment on, I would make it a point to become a regular. The food is made fresh, my friends and I belong to a couple of culinary clubs and organizations, so we are used to picking up on the quality of food. We sampled a couple of their items from their burritos to their quesadillas...they were amazing. They have a talent at putting together their meals in a way that brings out flavor. Their presentation was well executed as well. The place has personality and soul; you really feel at home eating there. If you are ever in Long Beach, CA, add this restaurant to your list of "Must Do".

I stop by this place every once in a while. The mahi mahi tacos with the corn avacado salsa are great. The deluxe vegetarian burrito is pretty good and the jimica inside of it is a nice touch, but I usually order mine without the cheese because they tend to use so much of it that it obscures the rest of the flavor. The chips and salsa are great and made fresh. The place is definitely small and can get crowded. I wouldn't wait to eat here, but if you can get in when there is room then you'll be happy.

They have the best chips and salsa. They also have sopes which are hard to find. Carne asada are the best! Great prices, too!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize.
